For SS Benefits
“Every worker, young or old.
should realize that it is important
to keep his personal social secur
ity account straight, just as he
would want to keep his own bank
account straight,” advises Eugene
L. Rawls, Manager of the At
lanta District Social Security Of
fice.
Mr. Rawls points out that one
of the most important ways tn
which you can do this is by taking
care to give your correct social
security number at all times.
“We Americans are noted for
our caution and for the eye we
keep on the future.” Rawls said.
“We provide for our retirement
and for cur families in case of our
death or disability through com
pany pension plans, insurance,
savings, investments, and in other
ways. One of the most valuable
protections we have is our social
security. Therefore, it is impor
tant,” emphasized, Mr. Rawls,

“tha* we do our part to insure
the accuracy of our social secur
ity account or the accounts of the
people who work for us.”
The social security number on
your card is the key to your so
cial security account. You may
feel that your name is uncommon
and that it will always provide
sufficient identification. But chan
ces are your name is more com
mon than you think.
For example, of the 924.000
Browns in the social security files,
more than 11,862 are named Char
lie Brown. So it is absolutely es-
sential that the earnings of each
of these Charlie Browns be re
ported under his own social se
curity number. And that can be
assured if each employee is care
ful to show his employer his so
cial security card when he re
ports for work, and make sure
that the number is copied cor
rectly.
Then when his earnings are re
ported tor social security credit,
they will be entered on the social
security account which is being
kept for him under that number.

that account.
“It’s a very good idea, Mr.
Rawls said, “for every worker to
check on his social security ac
count once every three years.
He can do this by sending in a
pre-addressed post card available
at any one of the 600 social se
curity district offices. He will re
ceive in the mail a statement of
his social security account, show
ing the earnings that have been
reported for him.
