Monday Had Program Theme 'Missions'
PORTERDALE - Seventeen
ladies attended the General Meet
ing of the W. S. C. S. of the Julia
A Porter Memorial Methodist
Church on Monday evening. Sep
tember 24 and opened their meet
ing with singing "Jesus Is Always
There”. Mrs. Henry Berry led in
prayer.
Minutes of the previous meet
ing were read and approved. The
treasurer gave the status of the
treasury. The individual circle
counts were as follows: Annie
Lummus —5; Ethel Belcher —
8. Marilu Pittman — 6
An important item of business
was the discussion and decision to i
sponsor Girl Scout No. 720 during
the next year. Mrs. J. B Mitchell,
Jr., a member of the society and
Mrs Estelle Bowman are the
leaders of this splendid organiza
tion.

Music Club Met Tuesday at Ficauett
School: Two Artists Were Heard

opening meeting of the new
year.
Mr. Allen graciously wel
comed the members and guests.
Minutes were read and ap
proved and treasurers report
given. Mr. Allen then told of
I the program plans for the new
year and introduced the gujst
artists of the evening. They
I were Misa Marilyn Miller and
! Mr. Bruce Head, both students
at Emory-at-Oxford.
Miss Miller performed sever
al dances that were enthusiast
ically received by the audience.
Mr. Head in his performance at
the piano displayed both talent
and ability.

lowed the program with Mrs.

admonished each one to meet
the challenge.
Question arose about using
Birthday money each month,
and since there are often no
birthdays or on’y one : n a
month. Mrs. Robert Green
made the following motion:
“I move that we wait until we
have enough money from the
Birthday Offerings to do some
good before we Tve it for anv
worthy cause.” Motion carried.
After the Business Session.

our beloved members, who has
been hospitalized and shut-in
for sometime with a spine in
jury, could be present. Mrs.

by Mrs. Nunn and Mrs. Yancey
served delicious refreshments.

nation corsage, a gift of the hos

After many enjoyable games
' were played. Miss Jaynes opened
i her many useful gifts. There were
| twenty-nine guests present.
