THIS AND THATI
The odds against a bowler shooting a 300 game in a
sanctioned league is 1.200.000 to 1, reports the American
Bowling Congress . . . Golf came from Scotland and Wales
introduced tennis to the world. Ping-Pong originated in
England and USA came up with basketball. Which reminds
us, this year should mark the most interesting cage season
at Newton High with both the girls and boys striving to
uphold their Region honors.
Auburn has started the same eleven players in all their
seven games this year. Coach Shug Jordan has also desig
nated Larry Laster and Jimmy Burson as team captains for
three of their games (Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi
State) . . . Newton High coaches Ronald Bradley and Stone
Cooper start the season with two of the most impressive
records in the state. Cooper has a total of 156 victories and
34 defeats in 7 seasons, while Bradley's sheet reads 101 wins
and 13 losses in four seasons.
Coach Bobby Dodd defended his decision on the one
point try in the Tech-FSU game Saturday when Tech trailed
13-14. “It took us four downs to score a TD from the 3-yard
line earlier in the game. Do you think we could have made
three yards in one try?” ... An article datelined New York
stated that Auburn would meet LSU in the Gator Bowd.
Tech, now with two losses and a tie, has very little chance
to land a bowl bid unless they can turn back Barna.
Christian and Knight 'Players of Week'
Quarterback Tim Christian and Guard James Knight were
named the "Players Os The Week" in the final game of the
season in which the Rams lost io Monroe 21-13. Knight is
a senior and Christian is a sophomore.
