Salem
By Mrs. Douglas Yancey
There are not many of the
news reporters who have 99th
birthday celebrations to write
about— but people will be in
terested to know that a former
Salem resident, Mrs. Minnie
Cowan will be celebrating her
99th birthday this month and
on November 3, the nurses at
the Confederate Soldiers Home
in Atlanta (where Mrs. Cowan
now lives) got together with
some of her close friends to
celebrate the occasion with a
party in her honor. Mrs. Co
wan received a number of love
ly and useful gifts. Those from
this community to enjoy the
celebration were Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Allen Sr. To Mrs. Co
wan who has a host of friends
and well wishers in Salem we
all join in saying “Many Re
turns” of the day to her.
