Allen Memorial Woman's Society of
Christian Service Met Tuesday
Tuesday, February 5, the
WSCS of Allen Memorial
Church, Oxford, met in the
ehapel with Mrs. V. Y. C. Eady,
president, presiding. As her
opening thoughts Mrs. Eady
read from a current events pa
per. used in our junior high
school. “Two Perspectives from
Behind the Bamboo Curtain”,
followed by prayer.
The January minutes were
read and approved. 'Rie trea
sia-er, Mrs. Jackson, reported
the quarterly pledge paid in
full and a balance of $62.95 in
the general treasury with $14.-
60 in cultivation fund.
Mrs. Elizer, vice president,
briefly presented the work of
the World Federation of Meth
odist Women, and in the ab
sence of Mrs. Gary, Spiritual
Life Chairman, she also pre
sented the book, "Dimensions
in Prayer”, which is to be used
in our spiritual life study in

To North Covington WSCS Meeting
The North Covington Wo
man’s Society of Christian
Service met Tuesday evening
at the church with Mrs. Olin
Allen and Mrs. Ray Geiger as
hostesses.
The meeting was opened
with a short devotional with
Miss Eva Mask leading the
opening prayer. The business
meeting was presided over by
the president, Mrs. Ed Hooten.
Mrs. I. T. Wiley called the roll
and read the minutes with Mns.
Calvin BouohAllon accepting
pledges.
Mrs. Robert Blasingame pre
sented the program on Christ
ian Attitudes, using as her sub
ject, “What Shall We Tell Our
Children About Suffering?"
In a very impressive manner,
Mrs. Blasingame told of the
faith that will help one to face
suffering and to answer ques
tions asked by children when
they face pain and disappoint
ment. The 13th Psalm was used
as a scriptural basis for the
program.
Miss Eva Mask presented the
credit card for the study, “Who
Cares?" or “Persons of Special
Need”. Plans are incomplete
ers for the group. A note to
Miss Mary Culler, assuring her
of our interest and telling of
our recent study of Asia, was
passed around for everyone’s
signature.

The meeting was turned over
to Mrs. Hamby Barton, sec
retary Missionary Education.
Mrs. Barton beautifully dress
ed in Chinese costume, with
the aid of maps, pictures and
blackboard, coordinated, sum
marized and related us to
events and to the people in
concluding the study, “On
Asia’s Rim”. Mrs. Gregory dis
missed the meeting with pray-

Compassion”, but “Dimensions
of Prayer”, will be presented
in April.
Delicious punch, sandwiches
and cookie* were served by
the hostesses Mrs. Geiger and
Mr*. Allen.
Hays District
HD Club Met
On Wednesday
The Hays District Club met
February 6, at the club room
in Starrsville with Mrs. W. L.
Barber and Mrs. Dennis serv
ing as joint hostess. Twenty
two members answered roll
call with Mrs. Willie Lunsford,
Mrs. Wendell Miller and Mrs.
Kenneth Johnson welcomed as
visitors.
The president, Mrs. Guy Mc-
Giboney Jr., presided during
the meeting with Mrs. Bennie
Barber giving the devotional.
Committees for 1963 were
read by Mrs. McGiboney. It
was announced the March
meeting would be held at the
new REA Building in Coving
ton on March 6. It was voted
to send a contribution to the
4-H Club Council to help with
their work for this year.
Mrs. Sara Groves gave a
helpful Demonstration on
Good Posture.
At the close of the meeting
the hostesses served delicious
open face sandwiches and
Cokes.

The white overlaid tables
were centered with an arrange
ment of red and white carna
tions in a white container.
Miss Wicks chose a red vel
vet sheath with black acces
sories for the occasion.

nesday, February 6, in the
home of Mrs. Fred Williams.
The home was attractively dec
orated with perminent flower
arrangements and green pot
ted plants.
Mrs. T. W. Binford, presi
dent, called the meeting to or
der with the song, “Jesus Is
All the World to Me”, follow
ed with prayer by Mrs. D. W.
Loyd.
Miss Ruth Duke, secretary,
read a thank you note from
the president for the ovely
gift given her while she was
a shut-in. She was given a
hearty welcome back to the
meeting. Mrs. Ernest Holcomb
was also welcomed back after
Covington Garden Club Entertained at
Home of Mrs. Harry Dietz, Wednesday
The Covington Garden Club
met at the home of Mrs. Harry
Dietz on February 6, with Mrs.
A. D. Jordan and Mrs. Arthur
Henderson serving as cohostess.
Prior to the meeting refresh
ments were served, carrying
out the Valentine theme.
The meeting was opened by
Mrs. Spence Ramsey, Chap
lain, giving the devotional, “A
Dream of Spring”.
Mrs. A. D. Jordan introduced
the guest speaker, Rev. Tom
White, who gave a most inter
esting talk on, “Gardening
Therapy”.
The minutes were read and
reports given. The following

and World Missions”. After

Nor West”, the meeting was
dismissed with prayer.

culturist will speak on Culture
of Ornamental Plants (soil pre
paration, pruning etc).

bon on horticulture.
