Mrs. Addison Terry Assumes Presidency
Os Auxiliary at Wednesday Luncheon
Covington Elks Club was the
scene, on Wednesday, of an an
nual highlight of Newton Co
unty Hospital Auxiliary, when
Mrs. Addison Terry, newly
elected president, and other
officers assumed their duties,
at an installation luncheon,
which assembled a record at
. tendance of members and
~ guests.
The 1963-64 slate of officers,
in addition to Mrs. Terry, in
cludes: Mrs. E. E. Callaway,
vice-president; Mrs. Rucker
- Ginn, recording secretary; Mrs.
Betty Burts, treasurer; and
Mrs. Jordan Callaway, corres
ponding secretary.
Mrs. R. R. Fowler, retiring
president, graciously welcomed
guests, among whom were Mrs.
Aubra Sherwood, B. B. Snow,
Chairman and R. R. Fowler,
members of the Hospital Au
thority; Mrs. Helen Dickinson,
Hospital Administrator; Jim
Wagner, business manager of
the Hospital; and Mrs. William
R. Dancy of Savannah, house
guest of Mrs. Belmont Dennis,
and a past president of Georgia
Medical Auxiliary.
Chairman Snow highly com
mended the Auxiliary and its
president, Mrs. Fowler, for the
^outstanding service rendered
—in various phases of hospital
TSYojects. Commendation of the
Auxiliary’s activities was also
voiced by Mrs. Dickinson, who
stated, “The Newton County
Hospital Auxiliary has meant
more to the Hospital than any
•ether program we have had.”

The Lovejoy WSCS met at
the church for the February
meeting with 13 members pres
ent and one visitor Mrs. Kin
nard. Mrs. J. W. Smith, the
president, called the meeting
to order with prayer.
Mrs. C. H. Pennington was
in charge of the program in
the absence of the chairman,
Mrs. Tommy Lassiter. After the
song, “Jesus Calls Us”, a dia
logue, “Why Missions Today”,
was given by Mrs. Richard
Ridding. Mrs. Spencer Wicks,
Miss Jimmie Gillham and Mrs.
W. C. Johnson. Mrs. Clyde
Dodd gave an interesting talk
on the fourth chapter of the

Mrs. E. E. Callaway, vice
president, stated that a new
channel of service was present
ed with the purchase of the
machine. Home Demonstration
Clubs of the county have offer
ed their cooperation in assisting
with sewing and maintenance
of hospital linens.
Interesting reports were
heard from various committee
chairmen, including Mrs. James
Purcell, Membership, who re
vealed an Auxiliary member
ship of 61 active, 42 associate
and 2 life members. Mrs. Jor
dan Callaway, Ways and Means,
gave a gratifying report on the
success of the play, “Snowdrift
and the Seven Flakes”, pres
ented by the Auxiliary; Mrs.
Frank Stone, Publicity, ex
pressed appreciation to the
Covington News and individ
uals for the splendid cooper
ation in promotion of the play
and other projects; Mrs. Mon
cey Pratt, Volunteer Service,
expressed gratitude to her co
chairman, Mrs. C. O. Nixon,
and members for multiple
hours of service, and loyal co
operation.
Mrs. Fowler expressed her
pleasure in serving with the
Auxiliary for the first year;
and appreciation to members,
committee chairmen and off
icers for their loyal support
throughout her tenure of office.
In conclusion, she read the
Auxiliary Prayer, as the bene
diction.

At the conclusion of the busi
ness session it was announced
the World Day of Prayer will
be held at the First Methodist
Church in Covington on March
1. Mrs. J. T. Smith and Mrs.
Hodgie Loyd were asked to see
about getting the piano refin
ished. Everyone was asked to
bring dish towels for the kit
chen.

On Saturday night, February
16, the Young People’s Depart
ment of Calvary Baptist Church
held their first Sweetheart
Banquet. President Rosemary
Smith president over the af
fair.
Mr. Bill Piatt announced and
crowned the Queen, Rosemary
Smith, and Mrs. Mildred Pratt
announced and crowned the
King, Johnie McDaniel.
The church annex was de
corated in the traditional red
and white for Valentine. The
king’s and queen’s thrones
were decorated in red and
white and a red carpet made a
path to the thrones.
Presents were presented to
the Queen and King by Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Pratt, the leaders
of the training union depart
ment.
For the closing, everyone
joined in the friendship circle,
and the benediction was given
by Mrs. Carl Cassidy.

Rather puzzling to some peo
ple is the ability of stomach
