Annual Blue and Gold Banquet
PORTERDALE — The Welau
nee Hotel in Porterdale was the
scene of the Annual Blue and Gold
I Banquet of Pack No. 60 on Tues
day evening, February 26, at sev
en - thirty o’clock. Long tables
overlaid with white cloths were
beautified by red, white, and blue
candles and streamers used ef
fectively with the blue and gold
color scheme. Individual programs
at each place were clever calen-

Mrs. T. J. Blitch delighted the
guests with a humorous mono
logue, “The Sheriffs of Deadwood
Gulch.”
Miss Mae Hardman presented to
Mr. Pope the Charter for Pack
No. 60 for the coming year from
the Porterdale Woman’s Club,
their sponsor.

Sees "Holiday on
Ice" in Atlanta
PORTERDALE — Thirty - five
members of the Porterdale Wo
man's Club attended the Matinee
Performance of Holiday on Ice of
1963 on Saturday, March 2, at the
Municipal Auditorium in Atlanta,
Georgia. It was breath takingly
beautiful and spectacular,
Davis Bros. Restaurant in the
Belvedere Shopping Plaza was
selected for their meal enroute
home. Some of the group enjoyed
shopping and others browsed in
the neighboring shops.
Mr. Bill Austin was the capable
and efficient driver who also join
ed them for the performance.

Ga. Economy Cut
$199-Million by
Auto Accidents
ATLANTA (GPS) — A total of
45,040 traffic accidents caused the
death of 1,106 persons and injuries
to 15.460 others in Georgia during
1962 Aside from the tragic human
aspect, these accidents resulted in
an economic loss to the state of
$199,080,000.
To put it another way. during
1962 one accident occurred every
ten minutes and 41 seconds, one
person was injured every 35 min
utes and one person was killed
every seven hours and 55 minutes.
Every 24 hours in the year, as a
result of death, injury and pro
perty damage on Georgia's high
ways and streets. Georgians suf
fered a monetary loss of $545,425.
These shocking statistics art
contained in a report just com
pleted by the Georgia Department
of Public Safety's Accident Re
porting Division and released by
Col. H. Lowell Conner, director.
The report further showed the
economic loss per licensed driver
in Georgia was $97.32 There were
2.045.666 licensed drivers in the
state last year
By comparison, in 1961 there
were 54.084 traffic accidents
reported, 1.017 persons killed and
18.988 injured. The state • wide
economic loss was placed at $162.-
720,000. (The national rate of eco
nomic loss per person killed in a
traffic accident went up from
$160,000 in 1961 to SIBO,OOO in 1962.)
