ministration must be informed of
this before the middle of the
month in order to send your next
check to the new address. If you
are unable to notify the social se
curity office of the change of ad
dress before the middle of the
month, you should make sure that
the local Post Office knows of the
change so that it may hold or
forward your check. As an added
precaution, even when social se
curity is informed of a change of
address, the Post Office should
also be notified.
If you were receiving social se
curity benefits and were under
age 72 during 1962 and if you
earned over SI2OO in the year, you
must report your earnings before
April 15, 1963, to the Social Se
curity Administration. Failure to
report these earnings may result
in loss of some benefits.
On the other hand, your earn
ings last year might increase the
amount of your social security
benefits. The Social Security Ad
ministration examines all annual
reports of earnings to see if the
PAGE NINETEEN
amount being paid is the highest
possible.
If you are entitled to receive
social security benefits but are
not receiving all of your checks
because you are working, the an
nual report of earnings is needed
to determine if any additional pay
ments for 1962 should be paid to
you.
If you are under 72 and plan to
continue working, the Social Se
curity Administration needs to
know how much you expect to
make during 1963. This will be
the basis for determining the
number of checks you can be paid
this year.
Other events which may affect
your social security payments
should be reported promptly al
so. Some of them are: marriage
of a widow or child beneficiary,
improvement of a disabled person,
adoption of minor children, changa
of custody of children, death of a
person receiving payments on
your account, and other changes
as explained at the time you ap
plied for social security benefits.
