is Mary, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Beeland, former resi
dents of this community.

death of her husband. Friday.

develop good news contacts,
the tools needed for effective
publicity, how to decide what
is news, and how to choose and
focus on the right audience.

Recreation Director Outlines
Program for City and County

Activities.
“The above list contains just
a few of the many activities
that can be included in a well
balanced recreation plan. Its
organization should comple
ment, not duplicate existing
programs,” according to Tom
Lovern, Covington - Newton
County Recreation Director.
The purpose of the pro-gram
is to serve the recreational
needs of the people, ft should
provide opportunities for them
to make the best use of their
free hours. Opportunities for
creative self-expression, for a
full life, for the enjoyment of
wholesome activities and in
terests of their choice,” he
stated.
A sound recreation program
should be planned for youth,
adults, and our golden age
group, with activities for in
doors and outdoors.
Covington and Newton Coun
ty have started their recreation
activities, but it is a slow and
long process to develop the
needs and desires of the peo
ple. In the Recreation Commis
sion the process of learning to
walk before we run, we fall
and pick ourself up and take
another step. For our first nine
months we have worked for a
program with our youth and
teens.
A sports program for our
youth, with midget football and
cheerleaders and then into
basketball for boys and girls.
With our teenagers we have

just a run down of the activi
ties for our second year and we
plan for this second year more
