More children die of cancer than
any other disease, (See Editorial
on Editorial page in next week’s
NEWS.)
If we had a free cooking school.
Flower workshop, or barbecue
how many of you would be there?
We had a free picture show this
week to teach Ladies how to do a
self examination to catch a lump
or growth, before it became ma
lignant, and only a slight chance
of recovery. We were thankful for
the fine group we had, but that
theatre should have had standing
room left. We CARE, why not you?
Our plan is to find a cure for
cancer. We need your help to save
your life. That is what the Edu
cational program i,s for. Cancer
of the colon or rectum will take
some 40,000 lives in 1963, If pre
sent rates continue, despite the
fact that most patients could be
saved if they had listened to the
nation wide program to stamp it
out.
In every town and village in
America Volunteer workers are
raising funds, working day and
night to help save lives, why is
the public so unconcerned?
Most of these workers are pa
tients, who caught theirs in time
to be saved, and are so grateful
that they want to help you save
your own life.
Why is your Mass Media Chair
man working? Because I learned
the hard way and stood by my
companion for two months at Em
ory Hospital, with colon surgery.
Then he developed Lung Cancer.
|We had worried about a seeming
cold, but he said it was not cold,
it was nothing. Then blood came
in the sputum. We went immedi
ately, for we knew that was one
of the danger signals we are try
ing to teach you to watch for.
Four more long months we
stood, walked halls, spent much
time in the little chapel, but it
was too late. He died on Christ
mas morning 1961. We've lived
every moment of that horrible ex
perience over each day. When we
found they could get no Mass Me
dia Chairman here we gave our
services. We have never worked
harder. We've prayed that, each of
you reading our messages, would
hear our plea to get a check-up. .
and give a check, that this work
might be carried on. The money
day Evening Bowling Fair at Gold
Crown Lanes Sunday Evening was

Walker was the winner of a gift
certificate of sls.
Mrs. Bill Staples was high game
winner for the evening with a

does not go to us as volunteer [
workers. We are working because I
we KNOW what Cancer means as- I
ter staying four long months in!
the hospital, and then two more. .
we saw many many patients die
there with it, because they were |
too late.
The Easter Season is here. We .
taught that lesson Sunday, when
our Saviour died a horrible death.
His hearers did not believe. The
ones He longed to bring love and
salvation to did not recognize him
. , . they crucified him! But do
you know, when that rough, hard
ened guard heard Christ, as he
died, exclaim triumphantly, “It is
finished,’’. . . exclaimed, in a
loud voice. “He truly was the
Son of God!” He recognized
Christ too late. He and the many
others would not listen.
Today, will you realize the
wonderful educational program,
service program etc., that the
American Cancer Society is try
ing to bring to our doors, our lov
ed ones, and us? Will we turn our
backs, and when it strikes the
one dearest to us cry, for the
help that cannot be given?
Only the Heavenly Father knows
the heartache when the doctor
says “You came too late!” Get
a check-up today! Give a fine
cheek today to carry on this pro
gram to save the lives of others.
People are beginning to Stop
and Listen! Why do we know? Be
cause there are 1,200.000 CURED
Cancer patients today. . .and the
fact that one in three cases is
being cured! Studies in cancer
clinics show a higher and higher
percentage of early tumors in the
total case load.
Have your dentist check your
gums for cancer of the mouth!
। Physician check thoroughly. You
are helping the program when you
get your own regular check-ups.
Your Checks will help to educate
more people, until the time will
come, we are told within the next
25 years that we will probably
have discovered a cure. That’s
what your dollars will go for.
We are praying for the success
of this program. . for Cancer took
