Judging Meet
On Saturday morning. April
6th, Ed Hunt, County Agent,
and Junior and Senior Land
Judging teams, ignored the
rather chilly rain swept skies
to attend the District Land Jud
ging Contest in Greenville,
Georgia. They left at 7:00 a. m.
and arrived in time for the 9:30
schedule of events.
Mr. J. W. Aaron accompan
ied Mr. Hunt, having charge of
the Junior Team of boys, which
was composed of Bobbie Marks,
Jack Bruce, Frankie Moss,
Steve Bruce and Tim Bruce.
The Senior Team members
were Arthur Hargrove, Dewey
Fisher, Mac Gay, Ronnie Ell
iott and David Johnson. Due to
last minute conflicts, the Sen
ior Team had only Arthur and
Dewey representing Newton
County.
Despite the rain and unfav
orable conditions, the 4-H'ers
took part in the various classes,
contests and activities of the
day. The teams judge the soil
on various factors, such as tex
ture, permeability, types of
soils, value of land and conser
vation. Results will be announ
ced in approximately two
weeks.
These 4-H'ers will still be able
to attend District Project Achi
evement at Rock Eagle in other
demonstrations, even though
this was a District Contest in
itself.
