Corn and Fertility
Soil fertility is closely linked
' ith good corn production, says
the county agent. Soil tests
should be made on soil chosen
for corn production and soil
test recommendations followed
in fertilization.
Soil Management
Good corn yields depend on
good management of the soil,
according to County Agent Ed
Hunt. To make corn, choose
good soil, turn it and then har
row into a firm, fine seedbed.

TRANSITION
One of the earliest and most
famous uses of Southern Pine
lumber was for decking of the
nation's fighting frigates in
colonial times.
Today, Southern Pine "deck
ing” is still very much in evid
ence, and on a far larger scale.
Chief modern use of this "deck”
is the roof, rather than the
walking surface, and it has be
come a multi-purpose item.
Applied in churches, schools,
commercial buildings and ho
mes, the deck Ls exposed on the
underside to provide a hand
some ceiling as well as the roof
structure. What’s more, it’s an
important factor in insulating
the building and can be readily
extended to form a large roof
overhang.
