Oppressively hot summer
days will usually see an increase
in cases of sunstroke, heat
stroke and heat prostration.
Sunstroke results from to®
long exposure to the hot sun,
while heatstroke is caused by
stifling, oppressive heat, often
indoors. Heat prostration it
caused by overly-long exposure
to heat and humidity, but dif
fers from the other conditions
in that the victim generally re
mains conscious and his temp
erature falls instead of rising.
The elderly, the very young
and people with heart problemt
are more commonly affected by
these conditions arising from
too much sun and heat.
