A big bitt come? out of our btulgot for our
building and expansion program every year.
We plan it this way to keep ahead of your
growing use of electricity —in the home, in
business, in industry and on the farm.
We’ll spend $88,101,000, or $318,225 each
working day. in 1963. The money will do many
things: It will increase our service to the people
of Georgia. It will pay salaries which help the
economy of the area. It will build greater power
facilities for new industries.
Our expansion means we pay more taxes and
thereby bear more of the costs of government.
A lot of money —SRB million. We spend it
confidently, knowing that Georgia will keep
right on growing.

’ Hello! Friend do you know
your new next-door neighbors?
With the extra ordinary indus
trial growth of our town we
have had an influx of new
residents, most of them stran
gers. Many have found homes
in new residential sections
away from the center. Some
have presented themselves at
the church of their choice and
so have become acquainted
। slightly, but many have re
mained at home, perhaps ex
pecting, and waiting for some
native resident to call on them
and invite them to church or
some civic organization.
Most of us have our coterie
of friends, whom we visit oc
casionally, or invite to our
homes, and don’t bother about
even our other casual friends
whom we meet at church and
I exchange greetings with, and
let it go at that, unless illness
or accident prods us into going
to visit them, and unless we
live next door to a new comer,
we give little thought to THEM
in any way.
This ought not so to be. Let’s
better ourselves, and do our
bit toward making new comers
welcome and draw them into

the social and church life of our
community. Take time out to
look up the new arrivals and
give them the glad hand.
I know of a Texas town that
has what they call the “wel
come wagon”. The merchants
of the town literally give the
new family a kind of “Pound
ing”. A market booklet is pres
ented at the door containing a
can or package neatly wrapped,
and carrying the address of the
place of business, with a card
welcoming them to town and
saying they will be welcomed
as customers. This makes them
feel that they are recognized as
members of the community and
pays dividends to the commer
cial interests.
A similar welcome visit bv
members of the churches or
Sunday School classes, o r
church societies would also
open the way for them to come
to the church of their choice
without any waiting time of
spiritual loveliness. Then don’t
stop at that, but follow up the
visits and get them to really
feel wanted and at home.
If I weren’t so deaf and old,
I’d love to be one of such a
visiting group. There are doz
ens of people in our churches
not so handicapped, and who
would really enjoy this kind of
activity at the slight cost of a
little time and thought, and not
only help someone else, but win
the friendship and appreciation
of those visited.

ACOUSTICAL
According to the Southern
Pine Association, the acoustical
value of wood is playing an im
portant role in the construc
tion of concert halls and musia
centers.
Typical structures of glued
laminated lumber arches with
wood roof decking are warm
and inspirational. The acoustics
of the deck improve the clarity
and tone of music.
