Four County 4-H Clubs Elect Officers For 1963-64
NCHS, Ficquett School,
Mansfield, Livingston Elect
Many of the 4-H clubs in Newton County have elected
their new slate of officers for the coming club year. Among
those who have announced their officers are: Newton County
High School, E. L. Ficquett School, Mansfield School and
Livingston School.

Jill Kindergarten of Oxford, spent
the day at “Story Land” near
Marietta Twenty mothers with
Mrs. Sybil Ellington, teacher, ac
companied the children.
The children enjoyed the 20 Mo
ther Goose attractions on Story
Land Trail after which a delicious
lunch was served under the trees.
After lunch they had an exciting
time on the rides and returned
home a tired but happy group.

Dies at Calhoun
Mrs. H T. Jones Sr.. 40. of
Calhoun died early Monday at
a Calhoun hospital.
She was a native of Newton
County. She is the wife of H. T.
Jones Sr., president of Echota
Cotton Mills.
Besides her husband, she is
survived by two sons, Tommy
and Jimmy Jones, both of Cal
houn: parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Crawford Hardwick of Gray,
formerly of Covington; three
sisters, Mrs. Luke Morgan of
Covington, Mrs. R. B. Theus
of Washington, D. C., and Mrs.
W. F. Jones of Decatur.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the
Calhoun Presbyterian Church.
Burial was in Fain Cemetery.

noon. May 18, in Walnut Grove
Cemetery for Sherill Dial, the
infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jefferson D. Dial Jr. of Cov
ington. Officiating at the ser

Porterdale Visit
PORTERDALE — The Bloodmo
bile visit at the Anderson Build
ing in Porterdale on Monday, May
j 20, was a success in that 53 pints
of blood, which could save fifty
three lives were received. Eighty
one donors visited the mobile cen
ter and offered to contribute,
which was all that could be re
quested of anyone Although th®
| volunteers and staff of the Red
i Cross Mobile Unit were most ap
i preciative of the interest of those
। who came, not quite one-half of
the quota of 110 pints was received
nor was the deficit of 209 in t h e
county satisfied.
It is hoped that future visits will
challenge more citizens to use this

The Newton Chapter of Future
Homemakers of America conclud
ed its year of work with the an
nual installation service on May
15, 1963.
The service was held after a
short business session led by
President Betty Faith Jaynes. The
minutes were read by Secretary
Noel Hayes.
The officers were installed in a
very impressive ceremony. A can
die was lighted by President Jay- j
nes for each F. H. A. purpose. The
new officers wore given a red
rose signifying the color of F. H.
A. The newly elected olficers gave
the oath pledging service tn their
club. They repeated the Creed to
gether.

Convention in Atlanta.
