Covington is extending a
warm welcome this week to
Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Drummond
who are making their home at
1809 Nelson Drive, where they
have moved into their new
home from Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Drummond
have no children. He is an em
ployee of The Coca-Cola Com
pany in Atlanta, where he is a
stock clerk. They are mem
bers 'of the Bethel Baptist
Church of Atlanta and he is a
minister and evangelist.
Mrs. Drummond gave their
reason for moving to Covington
as wanting to get away from
Atlanta and decided on Cov
ington to make their future
home. She assists Mr. Drum
mond with his church work
and says this takes up most of
their spare time.
One of the local Baptist
Churches will be glad to wel
come them into the membership
of whichever church they se
lect to make their future
church home.
Mr. and Mrs. Tony H. Hight
of Hicks Avenue, come to us
as new neighbors from Gain
esville, where they have made
their home for the past year.
Their reason for moving to Cov
ington was to find a good town
near both of their jobs.
Mrs. Hight is a native of
Dadeville, Alabama and will
be the English teacher in Rock
dale County High School in
Conyers, starting in the fall
term. Naturally she enjoys
reading in her spare
time as is evident by the sub
ject she has selected to teach.
Mr. Hight is a native of Co
lumbus and is an adjuster with
the Insurance Company of
North America, located in At
lanta. As a spare time hobby
he enjoys fishing.

welcome additions to the Meth
odist Church.

Ann Coady, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ellie Coady of Cov
ington, and Edward Mendell
Kirkley, Jr., son of Mrs. Jenny
Hartman of Brunswick, Geor
gia and the late E. M. Kirkley,
Sr., was characterized by re
verence and beauty at the
Grace Baptist Church on Sun
day afternoon, July 28, at three
o'clock. The Rev. Ivan Juhan
performed the impressive
double-ring ceremony before
an assemblage of friends and
relatives.
Massive emerald fern trees,
two seven-branched fern en
twined candelabra with glow
ing tapers and a sunburst ar
rangement of white gladiolus
and fujji mums and pompons
beautified the sanctuary. Satin
bows with fern fronds marked
the family pews.
Lanier Smallwood rendered
a program of nuptial piano se
lections and accompanied Mrs.
Jimmy Payne as she sang “I
Love You Truly” and "Wed
ding Prayer”.
Usher groomsmen were:
Jimmy Coggins, Jimmy Martin,
Bob Rankin, and Johnny
Smallwood.
Mr. Kirkley chose Milton
Howell of Atlanta as his best
i man.
! The happy bride. who was
presented in marriage by her
father, radiated happiness. Her
! floor length wedding dress of
Chantilly lace over net and
taffeta featured a scalloped
' neckline with lily point sleeves.
The fitted bodice formed a V
where it joined the voluminous
skirt whose back panel was
■ accentuated by tiers of lace
ruffles extending the entire
skirt’s length. Her veil of illu
sion net cascaded from a coro
net encrusted with pearls and
flowers. She honored the age
less tradition of something old.
new. borrowed, and blue, in
cluding a lucky six pence in
her white lace shoe.
The bride carried a white
Bible with a white orchid and
feathered carnations and white
satin streamers as her bouquet.

Reunion Held Sun.
The Hitchock Family Reun
ion was held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Hitchcock on
July 21. At the noon hour de
licious barbecue, stew, potato
salad, slaw, cakes, pies, lemon
ade and tea were served.
Everyone enjoyed the day and
plans were made for the gat
hering of the families again
next year.

bara Ann Goins, daughter of
Mrs. Robert Walter Goins and
the late Robert Goins former
ly of Covington, to Richard
Blaine Dillard son of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Dillard of Holly
wood, Fla. The wedding took
place in Hollywood, Florida at
the First Baptist Church, Sat
urday, July 27th at 4:30 in the
afternoon.
The wedding was perform
ed by the Rev. William Gard
ner in a beautiful setting of
floor baskets of white gladioli
and pompons with a back
ground of candelabra and pot- i
ted palms. White satin ribbons
marked the pews.
The bride was given in mar
riage by Mr. Carl Walker. She !
wore a formal gown of Chan
tilly lace and tulle fashioned
with a Sabrina neckline and |
sculptured bodice of lace en- ;
hanced with tiny iridescents i
and long point-to-hand sleeves.
Her bouffant skirt featured
tiers of lace and tulle and was
edged with scalloped lace. Her
skirt fell from a basque waist
, line and terminated gracefully
1 into a chapel train. Her bouf
fant three tiered veil of silk
illusion was fastened to a for
ward headpiece of roses adorn- |
ed with a spray of pearls. The
bride carried a cascade bou- i
quet of white roses and sprays
of lilies of the valley.
Mrs. Clinton M. Hunter, Jr.,
sister of the bride, was matron
I of honor. She wore an ashes
of roses silk organza gown over
matching taffeta fashioned
with oval neckline, tiny cap
sleeves and fitted bodice that
flowed gracefully into a floor
length bell-shaped skirt. Her
headpiece was a large rose
made of matching silk organza
I with an eye length circular
veil. She carried a Colonial
' bouquet of pink and white
. roses.
The bridesmaids were Miss
' JoAnne Hebblethwaite and
Miss Joan Thoman. They wore
gowns identical to the matron
of honor.
The ringbearer was the
bride’s nephew. Clinton M.
Hunter 111. He carried the
rings on a white satin pillow,

Honorees at Midway Church Affair
Rev. Jerry Watson and his
fiancee, Miss Janice Causey of
LaGrange, were guests of hon
or at a delightful surprise giv
en by the members of Midway
Baptist Church on last Sunday
evening.
This being his last Sunday
as pastor at Midway, members
greeted them at the front of
the sanctuary following the
evening worship hour, and then
filed into the educational
building and awaited their ar
rival.
As they entered one of the
large assembly rooms, they be
held a large cardboard train,

The Annex of the Grace Baptist
Church was the setting for a de
lightful party honoring the at
tendants and participants in the
Coady - Kirkley wedding on Sat
urday evening, July 27, immedi
ately following the rehearsal when
Mr. and Mrs. Ellie Coady were
hosts. The bridal couple chose
this occasion to present gifts as
momentoes of the happy event.
The buffet table overalid with
a white linen cutwork cloth had
a summer arrangement in yel
low for its centerpiece. Refresh
ments carried out the colors ot
yellow, blue, and white used in
the wedding. Sandwiches, chips
and dips, nuts, mints, hors doeu
vres. and iced cokes were tasty I
and refreshing.

white flora! dacron sleeveless
