There are mere ways of ap
pealing to the government than
marching to Washington! Did
you see the picture of that Ten

names of thousands of law
abiding Americans protesting
against the prohibition of Bible
reading and prayer in our
public schools.
Citizens all over the country
should follow their action and
arrange petitions from every
county in the U. S. A., being

Back-To-School Lunches
. **- ■ Z' “
The annual back-to-school season brings a flurry of activity to
every household with school-age children. There’s lots of shop
ping and planning to do to ready the youngsters for the busy year
ahead.
As the school year settles down into a normal routine, one of
the first things to lose its sparkle is the school-day lunch. Lunch
time can be a real problem in those areas which do not have
school food service, for lunch must be brought from home. It
takes ingenuity to plan varied noontime school meals day after
day which satisfy food energy and nutritional requirements, yet
appeal to youthful appetites at the same time.
Modern food wraps, such as Handi-Wrap plastic lunchbox
wrap, help to solve lunch-packing problems. A wrap which pro
tects flavor and freshness, provides leak proof protection and
allows you to see clearly what’s inside is one of the handiest
“school supplies” on your kitchen shelf.
Here are some lunch-packing tips from Handi-Wrap to help
you pack a more satisfying school lunch.
★ Children between six and 10 years old require 1700-2100 calo
ries per day, depending on height, weight, body structure and
activity. One-third of these food requirements should be met by
the school lunch.
* Avoid bulky sandwiches and heavy foods in a packed school
lunch—these are more likely to end up in the waste basket. Cut
sandwiches in small sections and peel, section and wrap fruit
separately for ease of eating.
★ Include nutritious snacks in the lunchbox to discourage chil
dren from too many sweets. Such foods as dried prunes, raisins,
peanuts, corn chips, tomato slices, carrot sticks, celery, cereal
cookies or cereal snacks are healthful and pleasing.
* Pattern a packed lunch after the Type A school lunch meal
which includes:
’A pint whole milk 1 serving bread, muffin or
2 ounces meat, fish, poultry other hot bread made of
or cheese or ’4 cup v hole wheat or enriched
cooked dried beans, peas cereal
or soy beans or 14 cup 2 teaspoons butter or
peanut butter fortified margarine
6 ounces or 44 cup of raw,
cooked or processed
vegetable or fruit
■ was over, the only evidence
। that peoole had been there was
the trash that was left to be
l cleaned up. Nobody knows who
i had been there.
The petition carries no tired,
THE COVINGTON NEWS
sweaty body; no blistered ach
ing feet, but registers the
name and address of each pe
titioner, for any who cares, or
needs to, to contact later.
So here's hoping that all of
the 'states may follow Tennes
see and roll in the petitions
for Bible and prayers in our
schools and may God bless our
nation and save our children.
GROWS WITH FAMILY
Ease of addition is a bid ad
vantage of homes with H or
U shaped floor plans. Gaps in
the H or the U provide space
for extra wings or rooms as
family growth requires.
According to the Southern
Pine Association, such addi
tions are further simplified
when the home is of wood
plank-and - beam construction.
The wood decking, which pro
vides both roof structure and
ceiling in this system, can be
easily and economically ex
tended to cover the added
rooms.

The Apostle Paul had much
that he yearned to teach the
believers at Judaea — wonder
ful truths that would have
thrilled them — but they were
“hard to be uttered,” or diffi
cult to explain to them, since
they were “dull of hearing.”
The word “dull” in Heb. 6:12
really means “slothful” or
“disinterested.” They were not i
merely hard of hearing, as we
say, but were too lazy, too in
different. spiritually to pay at
tention. They were not suffici
ently interested.
This is always a serious con
dition in the light of the fact
that “God hath spoken,” and
that disobedience to His Word
will be judged (Heb. 1:1, 2; 2:
1-3). Yet, alas, this is the con
dition of the professing Church
today. The great majority of
religious people are not suffi
ciently interested in what God
has said to engage in diligent,
prayerful study and, like those
of Paul's day, still have to be
taught “the first principles” of
the Bible. They have remained
babes, spiritually, unable to
digest anything but “milk,” and
so remain “unskillful in the
Word of righteousness” (Heb.
5:12-14).
What has brought this con
dition about? Is it because our
Bibles are being burned and
the Church persecuted for
reading it? Is it because God

[ is unwilling to lead us further
into His truth? Most assuredly
not. It is because so many men
of God in high places-no longer
have the single passion to know
God's Word and to make it
known. They could be as great
ly used of God in teaching the
Scriptures as their predecess
ors were, but they are “slothful
।of hearing” and hence have
little of value to teach.
And this is reflected in the
religious masses. They “love”
their Bibles, but not enough to
study them for themselves and
become workmen whom God
can approve. Let us not be
numbered among these. Rather,
let our one great passion be to
gain a clear understanding of
God’s Word, rightly divided--
for His sake, for our own sake
and for the sake of our fellow
: men.
THE STARS OF
MESSIAH'S REIGN
“And they that be wise shall
shine as the brightness of the
! firmament; and they that turn
। many to righteousness as the
stars for ever and ever”
(Dan. 12:3).
The day is coming when re
deemed Israel and all the saints
of Old Testament times will
taste the joy of Messiah's glori
ous reign. But some—the wise
—will be honored more than
others and will shine in that
day as the stars of the firma
ment.
Who are these “wise” ones?
Our text answers: “They that
turn many to righteousness.”
Not those who merely knew all
the technicalities of the pro
phetic program, but remained
unmoved, but those who, un
derstanding the prophetic plan
and recognizing that God must
judge sin, did something about
it and labored to turn many
to righteousness. These will be
the stars of Messiah’s reign.
What a lesson this passage
holds for us who have trusted
Christ as our Saviour in this
present "dispensation of grace"!
When we stand before the
Lord, all saved by His abun
dant grace, not all will be
