First day of Autumn. Septem

fallen into the 50's and we can
really tell that this is that wonder
ful time of year called "Indian
Summer”. My neighbor. W. C.
Bates, is celebrating ’ birthday
today (about his 16th, I think) and
we all join in saying Happy Birth
day to him.
Fall brings the Fair around
again and next Monday the people
of Newton County who are i n

again be going to the Legion
Fair Grounds to display the 1963
work they have done. Salem along
with the other communities o f

Although it retains its handy compact size, the Ford Fal
con has an exciting new look of action for 1964. Completely
restyled for the first time since its introduction four years
ago, the new Falcon offers added comfort inside, improved
economy and a softer, big car ride. Both tall and short driv
ers will find the visibility improved and the seating position
more comfortable. The Falcon matches its look of action
with a choice of engines ranging from the economical 114-
eubic-inch six-cylinder to the high performance 260-cubic
inch V-8. The Falcon has the widest model choice in the com

News Notes From
Oak Hill
By Maggie Wideman
The day sits like a kindly bene
diction on the hills of North Ga.
One doesn’t wonder that these
hills have inspired many of the
greatest writers of our country to
take pen in hand and preserve for
all generations a day such as this.
Even as we sit indulging in no
small amount of self-pity that a
marauding virus has chosen home
coming day at Prospect Church
to lay us low, we still feel joy to
be part of God’s world living
We welcome Mr. and Mrs. R.
E. Whatley and family to our
community. Mrs. Whatley is the
former Miss Lucile Hamby. They
are residing at the old “Niblett”
house, where John Niblett lived
for many years and then Tilman
Niblett and family lived for a
number of years.
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Duvall and
Mrs. Claude Haggard visited Har
old Edwards at the Faith, Hope
and Charity Rest Home in Stock
bridge, Sunday afternoon. We’re
sorry to hear Harold has been
sick and glad to know he i s
better.
May the Lord bless us as we
strive to , live according to His
will.

all the members of Gwen’s Sun

Off to his place of station in
Texas is Larry McCollough, son of
the Sam McColloughs. His branch

All of us at Prospect are
especially proud of our own SP.4
Jesse Vaughn Taylor, who is sta
tioned in Hanau, Germany. Since
his arrival there, he has been a
member of the choir and more
recently has been elected Vice-
President of The Protestant Men
of the Chapel. Though we are all
happy about his success, we will
all be glad when the next fifteen
months are over and he will be
home again and his fine bass voice
s part of our own choir. Vaughn
is a son of the Jesse Taylors of
this community.
The Robert Clint Widemans were
especially happy to have as house
guest over the weekend. Mrs. G.
A. Mitchell, who is Mrs. Wide
man’s mother. Mrs. Mitchell lives
in Atlanta.
The M. Y. F. of Prospect had
a ball Saturday night on their
hay-ride at least we judge so by
the happy grins when the talk
turns to hay-rides.
Pattie Wideman, piano student
of Charles Wade of Decatur, will
be presented in recital Saturday
evening, September 28th. Her
friends are invited to come.
The happiest little girl in Ox
ford Friday was likely Miss
Janet Burson, grand-daughter of
the Rueben Hulls, when she found
waiting in her yard a horse of
her very own. Only a real horse
lover can know the extend of her
joy. Janet is already an excellent
horsewoman. Her parents are the
John Bursons of Oxford.
A wonderful day of Christin
fellowship was enjoyed at Pros
pect Methodist Church Sunday,
when it was home-coming time
again. Everyone is grateful to all
those who worked so hard in
preparation for it. Jim and Bar
bara Hord, our young minister
and his fine wife are especially
ppreciated.
