Ah, these brisk, “bright,
blue October Days” join in the
warm welcome extended our
newcomers this week!
From Milledgeville come Mr.
and Mrs. R. H. Lunsford, who
with their two children, Becky
5 and Ken 2, reside at 504
Echols Street.
Mrs. Lunsford, a native of
Milledgeville, devotes leisure
moments to reading, flower
gardening and arranging, and
music.
Mr. Lunsford, an engineer
with the State Highway De
partment, is an avid fisher
man; likes hunting and spec
tator sports. He claims Craw
fordville as his home town.
The Lunsfords are members
of the Christian Denomination;
and are welcome additions to
the younger married set.
Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Mayo,
former Lake Charles, La. res
idents, have chosen Jackson
Lake as their future home in
their retirement.
Mrs. Mayo, originally from
Franklinton, La., names gard
ening, reading, art and sew
ing among her hobbies. Both
she and her husband enjoy
Eastern Star work.
Mr. Mayo, a New Orleans
native, who has retired after
many years with Mobile Oil
Company, enjoys fishing, base
ball and outdoor recreations;
and shares his wife's enthu
siasm for gardening. Mr. Mayo
is a 32nd Degree Mason.
The Mayos have two married
daughters living in Atlanta.
They are Mrs. R. T. Tarantino
and Mrs. J. T. Spurlock; and
were instrumental in their
parents choice for retirement,
of Newton County and Jack
son Lake.
The Methodist congregation
will be glad to learn that the
Mayos are of that denomina
tion, where they will be cor
dially welcomed, as they will
be in various phases of com
munity life of our county and
the Lake.

Gardens September 27-29.
Council theme was “Partners
in Leadership-Service and Fri
endship.” Governor Frances
Ford of Monroe presided at the
meetings.
Keynote speakers were Mrs.
Mary Homan, Director of Pilot
International and Dr. Waights
G. Henry, Jr., Presidents of La-
Grange College. Mrs. Homan
chose as her topic, “Mirror.
Mirror.” She spoke very force
fully of the challenge and res
ponsibility of reflecting “Pilot”
on our faces. Dr. Henry spoke
on “Major Issues Facing Us
Today.”
Two safety awards were pre
sented. The Pilot Club of Dal
ton received an award of merit
for its exceptional service to
safety by the Women’s Nation
al Safety Conference of the
National Safety Council. Earl
Edwards of West Point, chair
man of the Chattahoochee
Valley Safety Council, pre
sented the award to Sybil
Mauldin, president of the Dal
ton Club.

Miss Bernice Lois Reagan,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Del

Michael Wayne Goins, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Terrell A. Goins
of Covington, were united in
marriage at the home of the
bride’s parents in Conyers on
Saturday evening, September
28, at a 7:30 candlelight service
with members of the immedi
ate families and friends pre
sent.. Rev. Charles Elder, pastor
of the First Baptist Church of
Conyers, performed the double
ring ceremony.
A program of nuptial music
was furnished by Mrs. Charles
Elder, pianist.
The altar before which the
couple took their wedding vows
was formed with a background
of green palms with a center
arrangement of a white floor
basket of white gladiolus.
Flanking this were candelabra
base entwined with fern. The
candles were lit by the bride's
brother, Bennie Reagan.
Bob Goins, brother of the
groom, served as best man and
the only attendant for the
groom.
Miss Betty Jo Reagan, sister
of the bride as maid of honor,
wore a ballerina length dress
of pink lace over taffeta fash
ioned with a full skirt and fit
ted bodice. Her flowers were
of white pompons.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a floor
length white brocade satin
fashioned with a tight fitting
bodice, cap sleeves and a boat
neckline. Long white streamers
were fastened to the full flow
ing skirt in the back. She wore
an elbow length veil of net at
tached to a miniature flower
crown. Long white satin gloves
and satin pumps completed her
outfit. Her only jewelry was
a heart shaped diamond neck
lace, a gift of the groom. She
carried a bridal bouquet sash-
Women of First Presbyterian Church
Met Tuesday at Fellowship Hall
The Women of the First
Presbyterian Church met Tues
day night, September 24, in the
Fellowship Hall with 32 mem
bers present. The meeting was
called to order by the president,
Mrs. Hugh King.
Mrs. E. L. Patrick gave the
devotional taken from Acts 9.
verses 36-41.
Minutes were read and ap
proved and the treasurer's re
port given. Each circle chair
man gave her report. Mrs. King
thanked the circles and invidi
duals for flowers in the church
and for helping with the sup
pers.
The Area Stewardship meet
ing was held Tuesday night
with 23 present. Thursday night

The Susie B. Stone Circle of
the Allen Memorial Methodist
Church met at the home of Mrs.

Christened Sunday
Mary Lee Laster, four and
one-half month old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James W.
Laster, was christened in an
impressive ceremony at the
eleven o’clock worship sservice
of the Peachtree Road Meth
odist Church in Atlanta, Geor
gia on Sunday, September 29.
The young lady wore the
christening dress worn by her
mother, the former Miss Fran
Crossett, and water brought
from the Jordan River by her
great aunt, Mrs. Frampton
Carter, was used.
Her uncle, Larry Laster, of
Porterdale was the godfather.
Godmothers were Mrs. Gilmer

Covington Music
Club Met Tuesday
At Ficquett School
The Covington Music Club
met at the E. L. Ficquett School
cafetorium for the first meeting
of the new year, Tuesday night,
September 24.
Dr. Bob Gary, new r president,
presided and welcomed mem
bers and guests present. The
minutes were read and appro
ved and business discussed. A
proposal was made for the club
to sponsor a band student at
camp next summer. After some
discussion this was tabled at
the present time.
Dr. Gary introduced his own
program, which proved most
delightful. The program con
sisted of music and singing
which had been recorded on a
previous trip to Europe.

S. J. Moss was honored Sunday,
September 29th with a birthday

observance of his 87th birthday,

trees silhouetted against an
illumined arch of seven
branched candelabra centered
with a massive arrangement of
white gladiolus and mums.
Satin bows marking the family
pews completed the decora
tions.
A program of nuptial music
was rendered by Mrs. Jerome
Hamm and she accompanied
Miss Martha Jane House, solo
ist, as she sang “O Perfect
Love”, and “0 Love Divine and
Golden”.

Miss Charmet Fendley of At
lanta as maid of honor and only
attendant for the bride, wore a
pink lace over taffeta with a
lace bodice. She wore a satin
circlet headpiece with gathered
net forming a veil effect. She
carried a cascade bouquet of
pink rubrum lilies fashioned
with net and satin streamers.
The bride, presented in mar
riage by her father, was the
epitome of happiness, wearing
a white street length dress with
bodice of lace with wrist length
sleeves. The bodice formed a V
in back where it joined a full
taffeta skirt. A pearl and cry
stal encrusted coronet held her
veil of illusion net. Her bridal
bouquet was a cascade of step
hanotis with ivy surrounding
a white orchid and showered
with white satin streamers. She
honored the traditional some
thing old, new, borrowed and
blue and the lucky six-pence
in her shoe.
Mrs. Brooking, mother of the
bride, chose a beige sheath with
matching accessories and wore
a corsage of white carnations.

evening, September 23, at
seven-thirty, the W.S.C.S. of
the Julia A. Porter Memorial
Methodist Church met for their
general meeting. Mrs. W. W.
Cawthon, President, presided.
The treasurer's report was
made. Minutes were read and
approved. The count of the
circles were as follows: Annie

The Elkadcttes held their
regular monthly meeting at the
Elks Club on Monday, Septem
ber 23, with 28 members and 4
guests.

announced that the Covington
Elkadettes were asked to be
responsible for the Aidmore
Christmas Party on December '
