11. Sam Ramsey Is Selected as
An Outstanding Officer in USAF
United States Air Force Head
j quarters has announced the selec
| tion of First Lt. Samuel D. Ram
sey as an outstanding officer, an
award given annually throughout
the USAF to a select group of of
ficers who have exhibited a sus
tained high performance record in
their career field.
Lt. Ramsey is assigned to the '
Air Defense Command and is sta
tioned at K. I. Sawyer AFB. Michi
gan. For the past two years, Lt.
Ramsey has served as the 56th
Fighter Wing Material Control Of
ficer. Lt. Ramsey is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. C. D. Ramsey, Jr., of
Covington. He is a graduate of
Emory at Oxford, and Emory Uni
versity, where he was the recip
ient of the Air Force Association
Award.
Career future and promotion
for these officers is very bright,
since many field grade officers
will be reaching retirement age
soon. Also supply field is consider
ed a critical field by the Air
Force at the present time. Offi
cers selected have proved they
can master the very technical
and vast modern Air Force pro
cedures. All of the officers named
to the list for 1963 are limited
1 resource specialty officers. Only ;
86 officers of USAF ADC were so
honored. This means they are
considered so vital to their career
field that they cannot transfer
out of their field without special
permission from Headquarters
USAF, according to Washington,
D. C. and the Air Force Times.
Moving Christmas
Mail Is Big Job
Santa isn’t the only one who |
is busy getting ready for!
Christmas. For weeks now, U.
S. railroads have been making
preparations to move the bulk
of the more than 6,250.000,000
gift packages and greeting
cards which the postal service
will deliver during the holiday \
season.
For the railroads, this means
numerous special crews and
railroad equipment, just as the
Post Office Department adds
extra workers to keep the mad
moving.
To handle the anticipated
record load of Christmas mail,
the railroads expect to expedite

This is the second time in the
history of the Air Force that Lieu

this list.
Due to Lt. Ramsey’s manage

supply operational ready ratings
in ADC. He has written a Repro

railroads also transport thou
sands of cars otf express and
freight loaded with holiday
merchandise.
The holiday deluge repre

phenomenal year-round mail
performance, in which they
carry the bulk of the nation’s

crow like a rooster, coo like a

Christmas is observed widely
in Japan despite the fact that
fewer than one per cent of the
country’s population is Christ
ian. Each year, Tokyo’s streets
are bright with holiday deco
rations and “White Christmas”
is almost as popular as it is in
America.
In the United States, fire
works are associated with the
celebration of the Fourth of
July. Our neighbors to the
South use fireworks to celeb
rate the birthday of Christ.
In some sections of the
Americas, particularly on
Christmas Eve, fireworks are
as traditional as going to
church or setting down to a
family feast.
