- her prayer had not been an
swered. As we talked she said
* ‘‘Jesus said, “If ye ask anything
in my name I will do it.”
’ | I answered “Yes, He did say
a I that, but there was a condi
-1 j tion —did you notice that?”
So we got the Bible and
। looked up the passage, John
| 15:7. It reads “If ye abide in
, me, and my words abide in
' you.—ye shall ask what ye will
’’ and it shall be done unto you.”
1 If these conditions exist, i.e., if
■ t we abide in Him and His words
” | abide in our hearts, our peti
" . tions will always be: “If it be
® thy will, grant me this thing
I ask.” We will want only His
will and as Christ in Gethse
■ mane did, we will accept what
-1 ever comes as His will and
therefore our wilil.
This thing of prayer is na
' tural to all men everj'where, I
1 and it distinguishes men from:
' brutes.
Jesus said men ought al- ’
1 ways to pray. Christians have
1 the privilege of praying, and
asking God’s direction on every
; undertaking in life, from the
• least to the greatest undertak
' I ing. In the home, in the office,
‘ । at work or play. Nothing is of
' j too little importance to talk
’jabout to our heavenly Father.
Many people are in such a
I hurry to get to the day's work
they don't take time for a word
; of prayer before starting.
I was in the home of one of
’! my young friends last spring.
’ She had been left a widow with
,' three small sons to bring up,
' and little to do it with. Some
how. depending on the Lord's
help she had managed to keep
them in school and gotten out
of school jobs for them so they
could help earn enough to meet
their needs. They have been
taken to church and grown up
to take part in Christian ac
tivities. Now the eldest has a
. splendid position with an im
portant company, at a salary
I that enables him to contribute
| liberally to the support of the
I home. He is director of the
young people in the church, and
1 an official in the church. The
I other two boys are still going.
I to school and working after:
I class hours.
I They all get off early, but
I have breakfast together. When
I all are seated at the table one
I of them asks the blessing and
I while they eat. the mother
| reads a selection from the Bible
I given in the “Upper Room”.
I and prays asking God's direc-
I tion and presence with each of
I them for the day. When the
|| boys have said goodbye, and
Il gone, the little mother eats her
I own breakfast at leisure and
does her housework.
Her boys neither smoke,
f drink nor use bad language and
, j either one of them will lead in.
i i prayer if called on.
She says: “I don't know
- what I would have done after.
? my husband died if I hadn't
- depended on prayer!”
J; The Lord does hear and an
swer when we pray in faith.

Many Drugs
Make You Feel
Very Sleepy
Ry the Medical Association
of Georgia
People expect to be made sleepy
when given drugs specifically
made for this purpose. They usu
ally don’t expect drugs given for
other reasons to do this. Yet
some do.
It's a good idea to know this
and to take proper precautions.
Accidents are more prone to hap
pen if you’re not wide awake
while driving an automobile, fly- >
ing an airplane, running a train
or doing a number of other things.
The side effect of making the
person sleepy is so great with
some drugs in some persons that
they may appear to be drunk.
Just how a given drug affects a
person depends on many factors,
| including the person’s own chemi
'| cal makeup, the dosage of t h e
■ drug, and sometimes the environ
' j ment.
' Barbiturates, given to relieve
I ; anxiety or high blood pressure,
can make a person sleepy. Tran
quilizers cause a peaceful indif
ference to whatever is going on.
This attitude is conducive to sleep.
Medicines similar in chemical
nature to tranquilizers are used
in the treatment of patients with
many conditions including muscle
spasms, high blood pressure and
nausea, to name a few. They may
. make the patient sleepy just as
tranquilizers do.
Antihistaminic drugs often
, cause sleepiness. Some of these
। drugs are available without a
prescription as cold remedies.
। ' Many people take them for colds
, without the knowledge that they
i may cause drowsiness. Then, when
• they get sleepy, they don't link
• the drug with their feeling.
। The side effect of sleepiness isn’t

: always undesirable, of course,
j Sometimes it is beneficial.
The point to remember is that
most drugs have side-effects, be
they desirable or undesirable: If
the side effect is sleepiness, it is ;
wise to know this and prepare for
its occurrence.
DOC MAG SAYS:
1. Drugs taken for any number
of reasons may make you feel
: sleepy. Some may make you so I
sleepy you appear to be drunk.
Sleeping pills and medicines to
relieve pain aren’t the only drugs
that can make you sleepy.
2. Find out if the drug you are
taking or plan to take is likely to j
make you sleepy. Your doctor |
can tell you this. If the drug does
this or is likely to, adjust your ac
tions accordingly.
