Newton Teams Hang Up Double
Victories Over Rockdale, Baldwin
Newton County’s basketball i
teams added two more scalps to'
their victory belts during the
weekend as Rockdale County.
and Baldwin County were
downed in both girls and boys'
action.
Coach Cooper's girls scored
a 42-30 win over Conyers here
Friday night and took the
Baldwin sextet Saturday nignt
at Milledgeville 39-33. Coach
Ronald Bradley’s bombers;
turned back the Rockdale five |
76-40 and on Saturday night j
the Region foe Baldwin was I
vanquished 64-34.
NCHS scoring for the girls
against Rockdale was evenly
distributed at 13, 12 and 11 for
Kay Shaw, Linda Satterfield
and Carlyn Maloy respectively.
Debby Norton had 15 for Rock
dale.
Terry Smith put on an off
ensive streak of baskets in the
Rockdale game that saw the
expert ball-handler score 23
points in the tussle. He had 11
field goals. Grady Campbell
had a total of 16 in the game.
This included two free throws
and now Campbell has made
good on 20 straight foul shots.
The record at NCHS is 24.
Tomorrow night (Friday)
the NCHS squads will visit
Jackson for a couple of tilts.
Tuesday evening, January 14
the Newton teams will return
to the local gymnasium for an
encounter with the South
Gwinnett teams of Snellville.

the Griffin Lanes, Griffin,
Georgia, the Gold Crown
Lanes Junior Boys bow 1-
ing team comprised of
Gary Freeman, Danny Clower,
Tommy Bowen, Danny Sam
mons, and Jim Kirk, took first
place in the team events over
all other teams entered includ
ing a hand picked Brunswick
all-star team. For this accom
plishment, each bowler receiv- ।
ed an individual trophy and ।
Mr. Bowen, team Coach re- i
ceived a team trophy.
And that wasn’t all . . . Gary
Freeman took home an individ
ual trophy for high singles se
ries with a 647, another trophy
for high game with 249, and
still another for all events
with a 1745, or an average of
193 for all games rolled.
Then Jim Kirk teamed up
with Brenda Powers of Griffin
to win an individual trophy for
winning the doubles title. All
in all, it was a fine day for the j
boys from Covington, and the }
City is proud of this up and I
' coming group of young bowl- I
j ers.

। 2:00 PM, the traveling league
of Junior bowlers will bowl at

and Coach Ronald Bradley,
Terry Smith and Tim Christian
were present for the program
with the two coaches having a
part on the program. Dr. Mau
rice Griffin was in charge of
the program.

This little dog was found frozen to death Wednesday morn
ing in a yard on Monticello Street. We print this picture as
a warning to pet owners in hopes that during other cold
snaps this winter they will provide adequate shelter for
their pets.
