Church thrilled at the mes
sage of Mrs. Norman Walk
er, their guest speaker, at a
joint meeting of all three
circles on Monday evening,
July 13, at seven-thirty
o’clock.
Mrs. Walker, a member of
the First Baptist Church of
Conyers, Georgia, partici
pated in a recent tour of
Europe which carried her to
visit the Kremlin and spend
several weeks behind the
Iron Curtain. Slides and her
interesting narration of her
experiences were both en
lightening and touching.
Mrs. Walker told of her per
sonal emotions on two par
ticular occasions.
In a Baptist Church in
Moscow which would ac
commodate 800 people, at
least a thousand were there
for each of the three ser
vices held daily. At the
church she attended, the

of the Wesleyan Service
Guild of the Salem Metho
dist Church, and Mrs. Alvin
Jeffares.
Mrs, Lucille Ray and Mrs.
Henry Berry were respon
sible for this outstanding
program. Appreciation for
each circle was apparent as
Mrs. Jake Hunt, Mrs. Neal
Wheeler, and Mrs. W. C.
Ivey spoke in behalf of their
circle members. Mrs. W. W.
Cawthon, president of the
W.S.C.S., voiced her per
sonal gratitude.
Mrs. Lucille Ray served
refreshing parfait to the as
semblage.

At The Church's Fellowship Hall
The Woman’s Society of
Christian Service of the
Covington First Methodist
Church met Monday, July
20, in the Fellowship Hall
of the church. The general
meeting was opened by Mrs.
Dan Clower, vice president,
with the hymn, "More Love
to Thee”.
Mrs. Clower presented
Miss Sarah Mobley of the
Carrier Mobley Circle, who
was in charge of the pro
gram for July. A simple but
striking worship center
showed the Madonna figure

Mrs. Lyda Sue Hall gave
the devotional on “Babies of
the Bible”. She reminded
the group of the life of
Moses, how the hand of God
works at all times, shaping
our destinies and always
caring for our needs. She
then spoke of the Baby
Jesus, who came to earth
that we might be saved, giv
ing himself as the supreme
sacrifice to atone for our
sins.
During the business meet
ing the count of circles
showed the Georgie Elliott,
Mrs. Godfrey Trammell
Chairman, 9; Corrie Wright,
Mrs. Homer Sharp, chairman,
12; Carrie Mobley Circle,
Miss Sarah Mobley chairman,
12. There were three visitors
from the Sallie Fowler Cir
cle, which meets at night.
Mrs. Clower welcomed
Mrs. E. O. Kellum Jr., the
wife of the new minister,
telling her of the joy of hav
ing her as one of the co
workers. A report was made
on the sick and shut-ins.
Minutes of the June meeting
were read by Mrs. Ellis in
the absence of Mrs. Gainer.
The treasurer’s report was
given by Mrs. A. D. Jordan
and pledge cards were pass
ed.
The Spiritual Life Lead
ers for the circles are: Mrs.
C. D. Ramsey, Corrie Wright
Circle; Miss Lucy Banks,
Georgia Elliott Circle; Miss
Mobley reported the com
mittee of the month would
be responsible for the Car
rie Mobley Circle. The meet
ing was closed with prayer
by Mrs. Hiram Eillis.
Mrs. Godfrey Trammell
and Mrs. Dan Clower served
as hostess for the Georgie
Elliott Circle. During the so
cial hour Mrs. Kellum was
given a surprise shower by
the ladies of the WSCS, with
many lovely gifts being pre
sented to her.
BIRTHS
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Greer
announce the birth of a
daughter, Stefini Linn, on
July 10, at Georgia Baptist
Hospital. The 9 lb. 3 oz. baby
is the granddaughter of Mrs.
J. P. Farr and the late Mr,
Farr and Mr. and Mrs. W.
T. Greer Sr., all of Coving
ton.

grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. D. K. Hicks Sr., Mrs.
T. A. Mclntosh of Mansfield,
Mrs. E. P. Gwin and W. J.
Dearing of Oxford. Mrs.
Gwin was the former Miss
Charlene Hicks.

Circle Three
Presbyterian
Women Met Tues.
Circle No. 3 of the Women
of the Covington Presbyter
ian Church met Tuesday
morning at the home of Mrs.
T. Brooks Greer with eight
members present. Refresh
ments of punch and cookies
were served by the hostess
prior to the meeting.
Mrs. Donald Stephenson,
Circle Chairman, opened the
meeting with prayer. Mrs.
Christine Dyer asked Rev.
Tom White if he would act
as moderator and speak to
the group of women on the
“Historical Psalms” 78, 105,
106. 114 and 136. As Mr.
White was to be out of town
on the day of the meeting,
he had recorded his talk on
tape. Mrs. Dyer brought the
recording to the meeting and
the women heard a most
impressive talk on the His
torical Psalms, by Rev,
White.
Mrs. E. L. Patrick gave
the monthly emphasis on
“Christian Citizenship".
Minutes of the June meeting
were read by the secretary,
Mrs. Dyer, after which the
regular pledges were receiv
ed.
A love gift was received
by the treasurer from the
members, to be presented to
Mrs. Mamie Collier, who at
the time was a patient at
Georgia Baptist Hospital and
returns periodically for
treatments.
The chairman announced
the Women of the Church
would have a spend the day
meeting at Camp Calvin,
Tuesday, July 21. A tour of
the camp will be part of the
enjoyment of the day. Lun
cheon will be served to the
women at a nominal price.
The meeting was adjourned
with prayer.

WMS Circle Met
Monday, July 20
The Myrtle Combs Circle
of t'he Woman’s Missionary
Society of the First Baptist
Church met Monday after
noon, July 20, at the home of
Mrs. J. W. Alexander, WMU
president. Ten members
were present.
Mrs. Grady Walton, Circle
Chairman, presided and
opened the meeting with the
Watchwords repeated in
unison. Mrs. Alexander led
the opening prayer. Minutes
of the June meeting were
read and approved and re
ports given by the various
committees.
Mrs. E. W. Allen gave the
devotional taken from Acts
16:22-40, closing with pray
er. Mrs. J. A. Wall gave an
interesting program on “Be
fore the Seventies” and “A
Church Fulfilling Its Mis
sion”. Mrs. John Bush dis
missed the meeting with
prayer.
Mrs. Alexander served a
delicious ice drink with as
sorted cookies.

The grandmother of tne
bride, Mrs. Don Williams,
selected a pink jersey with
bone accessories. She wore
a shoulder corsage of white
gardenias.
A reception was held im
mediately following the
ceremony with the bride’s
table covered with a satin
cloth and overlaid with
green net. The corners ware
tucked with ivy and yellow
satin bows. Centering the
table was the beautifully
tiered wedding cake em
bossed with sugar roses in
white with pale green leaves
and topped with a miniature
bride and groom and lily of
the valley. Napkins engraved
with the names and wedding
date completed the table's
appointments. Serving the
cake were Mrs. Tom Wil
liams, dressed in a pale pink
lace and Mrs. Jackie Pickett,
wearing yellow lace. They
wore white carnation cor
sages.
The serving table was dec
orated similarly to the
bride’s table with crystal
punch bowls at either end. I
Centering the table was a
silver epergne holding burn
ing tapers and an arrange
ment of yellow gladiolus,
shasta daisies and cham
pagne carnations with bak
ers fern. Silver trays of
dainty decorated mints and
nuts with miniature rice
bags completed the appoint
ments. Serving at this table
were Miss Kathy Callaway,
wearing light blue brocade
and Miss Cathy Callaway,
wearing pink brocade.
White carnation corsages al
so complimented their out
fits.
'The bride’s book was kept
by Miss Peggy Jordan, sis
ter of the groom, who was
attractively dressed in an
aqua peau de soie. The on
ly decoration for this table
was a single white candle in
a silver candle holder with
yellow ribbons and yellow
pompons.
For traveling the bride
changed into a brown and
beige three piece suit with
matching accessories, the or
chid corsage from her wed
ding bouquet compliment
ing her going away costume.
