Polls, Patios And Decks
The degree of comfort and
enjoyment derived from
backyard bathing can be
greatly increased by vari
ous simple means.
Some people like to sun
themselves between dips
while others prefer the
shade. In either instance, a
wood deck will come in
handy because of its high in
sulation value.
One use. suggested by the
Southern Pine Association,
is for walkway and sunning
surface around the pool The
wood does not reflect heat
and you can absorb the sun's
rays in comparative comfort.
A second use is for roof
covering of a poolside patio.
Wood decking two inches
thick. The insulation this
represents shields bathers
effectively and prevents
penetration by heat into
shaded areas.
As a roof for a poolside
patio, it is supported by
horizontal beams attached
to widely spaced posts. Roof
ing materials are applied to
the top of the simple struc
ture. Spaces between posts
can be glassed in, if desired,
and the enclosed area air
conditioned. Because of its
high strength and natural
beauty. Southern Pine lumb
er is well adapted to the
system.
With the deck walkway
and sunning surface, the
lumber is constantly exposed
to the elements and also
close to the ground. In such
instances, the lumber should
be pressure treated with
chemical preservatives. It is
thus immunized against in
sect attack and severe ex
posure.
GROW 'EM LARGER
Construction-type South
ern pine plywood is now
on the market. Extension
Forester Nelson Brightwell
points out that larger logs
are more cheaply converted
into plywood than small
ones. The challenge to Geor
gia woodland owners, he
says, is to grow larger trees.

Supersize Beautyrest mattresses
mean superfine sleep
You've never really slept since babyhood unless you've slept
on a Beautyrest mattress (24 inches wider, King size or 6
inches wider, Queen size and each 5 inches longer).
When you were a baby 27 inches was wide enough, but it’s
foolish to try to sleep all your life on 27 inches, which is just
half the size of a conventional double mattress.
Thousands of sophisticated sleepers are going to these
super size Beautyrests. One reason is, they cost only $lO or a
little more than the usual size.
Considering the fact you spend 1/3 your life on your mat
tress, you could spend 10 times as much as you do for mattress
comfort.
Beautyrest’s basic secret is that each of the some 900 coil
springs is in its own container and reacts independently to
your body weight and pressure at each given curve and point.
