Fidelis Matrons Class Enjoyed
Meeting Wednesday At The Church
The Fidelis Matrons Sun
day School Class of the First
Baptist Church met Wed
nesday, September 23, in the
assembly room of the
church. A lovely arrange
ment of red and white dah
lias was used on the center
table, which was arranged
by Mrs. Fannie Mitchum.
Mrs. J. L. Bush, President,
presided and welcomed those
present. The meeting was
mmiscences of the yester
years contributing much to
the occasion. Mrs. Wood Pip
er, 84, is the church’s eldest
member. Although she did
not join the church at Pros
pect, she has been a member
there, for some 70 years.
The purchase price of
SI,OOO per acre for two acres
of adjoining land, recently
bought by the church,
brought to mind the original
site of Prospect, in the forks
of Highway 20 and the coun
ty road to the Wood Piper
home - 116 acres of land ac
quired from Edward C.
Wade for grant of sc! The
first building was construct
ed of logs caulked with clay;
and had an expansive fire
place in one end, and the
pulpit in the other. Backless,
split log log benches assured
the preacher of attentive
listeners.
The additional Sunday
School rooms at an estimated
cost of $900; the newly re
novated parsonage, effected
with members’ volunteer
labor; and purchase of new
furnishings in addition to the
purchase of adjoining acrea
ge, emphasize the progres
siveness of Prospect’s mem
bership. It is one of the few
rural churches with a well
trained, robed choir.
Prospect exemplifies the
Faith of its founders, in
cherishing and perpetuating
the religious heritage of the
stalwart Christians who
have gone before.
