Final tribute was paid
Mrs. Millard Parker, who
died Monday at the home of
her daughter. Mrs. Harry
Dietz. Mrs. Parker was a
beloved citizen and nearing
her 92nd birthday. The Rev.
Mr. Edgar Callaway offi
ciated.

Mrs. P. Willson has re
turned home after visiting
with her children, Mr. and
Mrs. Peden Blake and Will
son of Savannah. The Blakes
brought her home and spent
the weekend.

visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Mitchell of Loganville Sun
day afternoon. Mr. Mitchell
has been confined in an At
lanta hospital. We wish for
him an early and complete
recovery.

weekend with their parents,

Is Hairdresser
Miss Dorothy Shannon, a
member of Newton County
High School D. C. T. club
participated recently in AH
Star Beauty Forum-First
Timers Contest, held at the
Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta.
Miss Shannon received ex
cellent rating for her hair
Style performed on Miss
Sandra Johnson.
The contest was open to
any hairdresser within the
Felton and Jack Fred Beauty
Supply Companies trading
Area. This included students,
apprentices, persons holding
permits or licensed hair
dressers who have never
won a trophy in any type of
hairdressing contest. The
hairstyles were to be suit
able for daytime wear. Each
artist was allowed 45 minu
tes for combing and dress
ing hair.
Miss Shannon is now em
ployed at Julia’s Beauty
Shop, by her mother, Mrs.
Julia Shannon.
Student Teachers
At Newton High
Two student teachers, Ro
bert E. Peay and Charles
Houck, will become a part
of the Newton County High
School faculty on Monday,
September 28. These students
are in the last quarter of the
teacher-training program at
the University of Georgia.
After serving the fall quarter
of teacher internship they
will become fully certified
teachers.
Only the better schools of
the state are selected to take
part in this teacher training
program. For many years
Newton County High School
has been honored to be a
part of this program and
Newton plans to take an
added number of students
in this program.
Mr. Houck moved to Geor
gia from Ohio and now re
sides at Warner Robins. He
will work in the field of
United States History under
the supervision of Mrs. R. H.
Patterson.
Mr. Peay retired from the
US Army in 1957 with the
rank of Major. Besides serv
ing in the US his tours of
duty carried him to New
Guinea, Netherlands. East
Indies, Philippine Islands,
Japan. Germany, France.
Belgium, Denmark, Luxem
burg and Korea. He will do
hi s practice teaching in
American Government and
United States History under
the supervision of Mrs. D. C.
Moore.
Dr. S. J. Singleton will be
the college supervisor of
both students. |
