THE COVINGTON NEWS
Layona Glenn
Says ..
Hello! Everybody! Happy
New Year!
The new year is usually con=-
sidered a kind of ** Janus=-faced’’
occasion with people looking
backward and forward,
Let's join Paul in making it
forward looking,
You remember he was in pri=-
son and the temptation naturally
would have been for him to look
back to the good old times when
he was free and could be with
his friends and enjoy their com=
panionship, Instead of that we
find him writing to those friends,
urging them to be loyal, and
faithful and to be joyful in ser
ving the Lord; as an example
for them he writes:
‘“This one thing I do, forget=
ting those things which are be
hind and reaching forth to those
things which are before, I press
forward toward the mark for the
prize of the high calling of God
in Christ Jesus.,”
pon’t let us be looking back
and worrying over the mistakes
we have made, or the opportun
ities we failed to take advantage
of; or crying over our failures!
That is all water over the dam.,
We can’t change what has been
done, Let us recall our mis
takes only to avoid repeating
them,
Let’s look forward with hope
and the determination to do the
best we can to make the world
better, and others happier,
Let us who claim to be Chris
tians determine to live and act
as we believe Christ would do
under the circumstances. Our
job, as His followers, is to help
establish the kingdom of God
here on earth,
Satan and his crowd are at
work all over the earth, doing
untold damage and the tendency
among those of us who oppose
him is to think nothing can be
done to bring about his down=-
fall, This tendency comes from
our failure to remember the
promise that the Lord is coming
again, The assurance is clear
and plain (Acts 1:8-11). . .We,
His followers are to occupy till
he comes, We are to be His
witnesses, So let us go into
the New Year looking forward
toward that day, ever working
to be ready for His coming.
While He was here Jesus said:
«1 must work the works of Him
that sent me while it is day.”
An unknown poet has said:
“Time worketh, let me work
too
Time undoeth, Let me do,
Busy as time my work I ply,
Till I rest in the rest of
eternity. i
sin worketh Let me work too,
sin undoeth, let me do,
Busy as sin my work I ply
Till 1 rest in the rest of
eternity."”
