Says ..
At the request of friends |
am using this Bible study and
hope it will not be too long for
my space;
We are all familiar with the
story of Moses and the burning
bush; how God ordered him to
go back to Egypt to lead his
people out of bondage; and of
Moses asking by what name he
should designate Him when the
people should ask by what
authority he spoke; and how God
gave His name as: IAM THAT
I AM, and told him to say that
I AM sent him.
That is an incomplete state
ment. It simply expresses ex
istence, and needs a predicate
to explain its full meaning, but
to Moses it was enough to know
he was being guided by the eter
nal God as he went to try to
lead his people to freedom.
God had something better in
store for mankind, but He is
never in a hurry.
He gives the seed time to ger=-
minate and ‘‘bring forth first the
blade then the ear, then the full
corn in the ear.” He gives the
acorn plenty of time to become
the giant oak.
During the centuries He re
vealed Himself to those wheo
sought Him as Jehovah, the Eter=-
nal One; and tried to prepare
them through the law and the
system of sacrifice for the full
revealment of Himself in ‘‘the
fullness of time.”” That is, when
the human race had had ample
time to find out that man could
not run this world successfully
without God.
When that time came He sent
His own Son . ..bornofa woman,
thus taking on human flesh, so
as to meet temptation as a man
and conquer Satan, as Adam
should have done; going evén
further, and laying down His

life so as to conquer the death
that Adam had brought upon the
human race through Sin.
Thus ‘‘in the fulness of time'’
Jesus came into the world and by
His life and teaching demonst
rated the completion of the un
finished revelation of the name of
God, and showed man the nature,
and name of God, so we find:
God saying: Jesus finishing:
I am—The Messiah, John 4:
25-26; 1 am—The Bread of Life,
John 6:35; I am—The Light of
the Wworld, John 9:5; I ame
The Son of God, John 9:35-36;
1 am—The Door, John 10:9; I
am-—The Good Shepherd, John
10:11; 1 am—The Resurrection
and Life, John 11:25; I ame
Lord and Master, John 13:13-14;
1 am—The Way, the Truth and
Life, John 14:6; I am—The True
Vine, John 15:1.
Then in His great high-priest
ly prayer (John 17) He reports
to His Father: ‘I have mani
fested Thy NAME unto them.”
In this prayer (which should
be designated as the Lord’s
Prayer He gave His disciples)
Jesus gives to His Father His
last report on His work; stating
that He has completed it. Here
He prays for those to whom He
is intrusting its application and
continuance. He even prays for
those who come to believe on
His name through His disciples’
testimony, and this brings it down
to you and me! because it is
through their witnessing that we
believe.
Shall we allow this prayer of
Jesus to stop with us? Surely
not!
Rather let us tell the story
to others, and let them keep it
going till He comes again to say
““Well done.”
