has published a 45-page history
of Brick Store Community, Start=
ed over two years ago as a club
project, the do-it-yourself his
tory of the community farms
and families has aroused so much
interest throughout the area that

March of Dimes Drive Will
Concentrate On Schools Here
The National Foundation which
annually sponsors the March of
Dimes has designated the week
of February 8 for its campaign,
according to an announcement by
Troy Thigpen, Chairman of the
Newton County Chapter of the
National Foundation.
The Foundation, which suc
cessfully developed the immuni=-
zation of both children and adults
from polio, is now concentrating
its efforts on correcting birth
defects in children, seeking a
cure for arthritis, and conducting
research into viruses and other
human ailments.

Allen Barnett
Honored at NCHS
Doug Jolley was honored by the
student Council of NCHS on
February 1 by being chosen as
school Citizen of the Week. As
an outstanding sophomore, Doug
is serving as President of the
Sophomore class, President of
the Latin Club, Chaplain of the
Hi-Y, and a delegate to Youth
Assembly, and is a member of
the Key Club, Each day after
school he willingly gives up his
time to act as traffic director.
Allen Barnett was saluted as
January School Citizen of the
Month. Allen has proved in
valuable to his school in acting
as an all ‘round helper, For his
willingness to always help when
called upon in any manner the
Student Council congratulates and
thanks him with this honor.

of Christian Service of the Julia
A, Porter Memorial Methodist
Church met on Monday evening,
January 25, at seven~thirty
o'clock, Mrs., W, W, Cawthon,
president, presided, She thanked
all ladies for making the Christ=
mas party a success,
Old and new business was dis
cussed, It was voted to bring a
pantry shower to the church on
of Newton County to know that
their past support of the Foun
dation has been excellent, and I
hope that this year parents who
have children attending the pub
lic schools will send a contri
bution which each child canplace
in the container in each class
room during the week.
“There is not going to be a
house=to-house campaign, nor
any other personal contact soli=-
citation. Therefore, unless the
coins are sent to school, Newton
County will not contribute any
thing to the fund this year. Os
course, checks may be mailed
to The March of Dimes, Box 29,
Covington, and 1 believe many
grateful parents will want to send
a check,” Mr. Thigpen stated.
The funds collected are avail
able to needy Newton County
people who are victims of polio
and to children with correctible
birth defects.

barbecue Saturday, February
13th at Legion Home from 4
