t PARENT. YOUTH t
: COUNCIL-ING :
Editor’s Note: These are
recommendations drawn
up by Parents and Youth
members of the Newton
County Parent - Youth
Council, on various sub
jects which these groups
have discussed, and sought
solutions conducive to the
best interests of all con
cerned.
GENERAL SUGGESTIONS:
Spiritual Foundation - Good
conduct begins within. No out
ward code is a substitute for the
inward desire to do right. Good
ness is promoted by knowledge,
understanding, and faith in God.
Youth needs spiritual founda
tions, and it is the duty of par
ents, in cooperation with church
or synagogue, to help young
people establish right ideals.
Religious life must become a
part of the whole personality. It
cannot be pushed aside as a
fragmentary part of personal de
velopment - something for Sab
bath practice, but unimportant the
remainder of the week. Spiritual
interest on the part of youth is
encouraged when parents set the
example of sincere religious ob
servance. The adage “Don’t send
your children to Church . .. take
them”, should be the Sabbath
rule.
(Do you have a problem or
subject you would like the Coun
cil to discuss?? Any bona fide
question, signed by the sender,
will be discussed in the “Coun
ciling” Column. Your name
may be with-held from publi
cation, if requested, but all re
quests mailed to The Covington
News must be signed.)
