James H. Capps
Makes Cadet
Lt. Colonel
Cadet James H. Capps, son
of Mr. H. C. Capps, Route 2,
Woodhaven Drive, Covington, has
been promoted to the rank of
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in the
Corps of Cadets at North Georgia
College, Dahlonega, Georgia. He
will be the Second Battalion
Commander.
Marcus Bryant, Formerly With
Covington NEWS, Dies In Athens
Funeral services for Marcus
Bryant of 135 Pine View Drive,
Athens, formerly of Covington,
were held Sunday afternoon, Sept
ember 19, at the First Baptist
Church in Athens. Dr. Howard
P, Giddens, pastor of the church,
assisted by Rev. William Simp
son officiated at the last rites.
Mr. Bryant, 59, was born in
Greensboro, the son of Mrs.
Nellie McCommons Bryant and
the late W. M. Bryant. He died
in an Athens hospital on Friday
night, following a lingering ill
ness. He was a graduate of
Athens High School and the Univ
ersity of Georgia where he was
a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity
and the Gridiron Club. A faith
ful member of the Athens Bap
tist Church, he was also a mem
ber of the Kiwanis and Rotary
Clubs and a veteran of World
War n. After his graduation
from college he worked for the
Southeastern Bureau of Assoc
iated Press in Atlanta and the
Coca-Cola Company.
For a number of years he was
employed at the Covington News
in advertising and general news
editing. While here he took an
active part in local church and
community activities. For a
while after leaving Covington he
was employed with the Walton
Tribune in Monroe before going
to Athens several years ago,
where he was connected with the
Athens Banner-Herald.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Marcus (Peg) Bryant,
two sons, Leland Marshal Bryant,
Athens; William Marcus Bryant
Jr., Cheyenne, Wyoming; one
daughter. Miss Mary Anne Bry-

Funeral Today
At 3 O’clock
Funeral service for Elton L.
McMichael Sr., of Oxford, will
be held today (Thursday), Sept
ember 23, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel
of Caldwell and Cowan Funeral
Home with Rev. James P. West
Jr., officiating at the last rites.
Interment will be in Lawnwood
Memorial Park, Covington.
Mr. McMichael, 57, died sud
denly on September 21.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Elton L. McMichael, Oxford;
