4-H Club work for the member=
ship of the Newton County High
School Club has increasea sub=
stantially this year over last
year’s enrollment, Toknow that,
in some way, I have helped in
building a bigger and better 4-H
organization in this high school
group, makes me feel as though
I have accomplished something==
something worthwhile,
BY TOMMY CURTIS
I have been in 4-H club work
for four years now. In the past
years 1 have learned that it is
true that you ‘‘learn by doing’.
1 have always respected the 4-H
motto, ‘“To Make The Best
Better’’ and the pledge for which
the 4-H emblem stands. The
four ‘“H's’® which stand for your
head, heart, hands, and health,
have been important to me since
I joined 4-H Club work.
When 1 first joined 4-H, 1
took Entomology as my project
which is the study of insects.
Since insects cause more than
SIOO million dollars worth of
damage each year in Georgia
alone, 1 thought it would make a
good project for me. However,
1 found that all insects weren’t
destructive. Everyone is affected
by insects so I started working
on my project getting to knwo all
insects. I certainly learned alot
working on the entomology pro
j(’Ct.
My second year in 4-H Club
work I carried the Tractor pro
ject, and of course, Leadership
again. 1 did some more work
in my entomology project but 1
congratulations

went to District in my tractor
project and competed with the
others at Rock Eagle. 1 took
much pride in this tractor pro=
ject work since I live on a farm
and help regularly with tractor
driving. This is a project in
which I felt I have learned a great
deal and it has made me very
conscious of safety and good op
eration habits in all types of farm
machinery.
In my third agear of club work
1 continued ding on to my
agronomy project and find it just
as interesting as others. 1
competed at District Project Ac
hievement meeting at Rock Eagle
in the Agronomy demonstration
and placed fourth out of about
eighteen competing. I hope to
do better than this in the next
District competition.
Besides all my project work
in 4-H, I have had lots of other
wonderful experiences. [ have
been on the dairy judging team
and the livestock judging team
from our county and it was very
helpful since we have both of
these kinds of animals on our
farm.
I have also served on various
committees in my 4-H Club and
have served as Secretary-Trea
surer of my school 4-H Club,
Leadership is always one of my
projects as it helps me to help
other 4-H boys and girls realize
that 4-H Club activities can be
very satisfying and rewarding.
1 can say that they have cer=-
tainly been so for me.

This is my second year in
the 4-H Club activities and work
and I've already learned to app

to young boys and girls, By
this I mean that 4-H has already
provided me with lots of opport
