4-H’ers get to know each other

One of the most enjoyable and
worthwhile activities was the re=
creational vorkshops I attended
where we learned to square dance
and even call some of thedances,
Mr., M, L, “Rip’”’ Van Winkle
was our instructor and we all
enjoyed these lessons very much,
We joined a group from Henry
County at the 4-H Day at the
Southeastern Fair and exhibited
our folk dancing ¢‘know-how’’,

from a puppy, following all of the
principles as outlined inmy Vet

her according to the various

My brother and sister have
both helped me very much in
4-H club work and I helped them
by taking care of their 4-H poul
try project sometimes when they
were away at 4-H camps.
My 4-H activities include
helping beautify the home grounds
with new landscaping plants,
maintaining the yard and grounds,
helping to build a patio area,
barbeque pit, stone steps, brick
retaining wall around a big oak
w
tree, and many other things,
1 also help my father build
things in the workshop and have
exhibited my birdhouse in the
County Fair where I won a first
place blue ribbon and $3.00 in
prize money, I also created a
space model and -xhibited it,
winning first place and $1.,50

bon,
4-H has taught me many things
already, First of all I have
learned that there is lots of
work to do and secondly, I have
learned that there is lots of
fun in this work when you keep
records of what you have done
and profit from any mistakes
that happen so that the next
time you do a job you don’t
make the same mistake again,
Finally, Pd like to say that
4-H has taught me the value of
friendship and sharing with
others. I hope that I can always
be a 4-H’er and continue to grow
with 4-H.,

prefer Entomology as my pro

insects, since this is the study
of insects. There is a greatdeal
of fun catching insects andtrying
to get them identified. A person
must take this project in order
to find this out.

his project. One of my joys has
been to represent Newton County
at these District competitions.
To some people, 4-Hwork may
seem that it is good for nothing
but to get out of class and go to
another room and sit through a
dull program. But on the other
hand, if you listen to the com
mittee’s program, it is some=-
times inspiring.
4-H work has beenvery helpful
to me and I hope I can better my
4-H record as I go on through
school at Newton High.

I am a member of the Mans=-
field 4-H Club. My projects are
Livestock-Beef, Leadership, En
tomology, and Agronomy. In my
livestock project, I have learned
many things. I took a calf to the
fat cattle show in Atlanta, but in
the ‘!sifting’’ of the entries, Iwas
not iudged for the showing. I
learned how to feed my calf, the
proper way to groom and show my
calf and most of all, to have good
sportsmanship.
My father, Mr. Hunt (our county
agent) and Mr. Lazenby, did a
good job helping me select my
calf. When I got home with my
calf I started to halter break it
and fed it twice a day. Abouttwo
weeks before the show, I buckled
down and got to work, washing my
calf two or three times and
grooming it daily. I am going to
go to Atlanta again and I have
learned more thanever about how
to get your steer ready for show
ing. I have set my goal tohave a
better calf than ever. Ihave been
to judge calves with Mr. Hunt at
Newnan and Athens and enjoyed
these trips very much.
In my entomology project I have
learned all about the different in
sects and my Agronomy project
fits in everyday with the needs of
our farm and livestock. I planto
stay in 4-H Club work as long as
I can and to work hard always to

my main project and then in my
third year, I took Dairy as my
projects I was on the livestock
judging team because we have
these dairy animals on our farm.
I had the opportunity to go on a
Land Judging team, but Iwas sick
and didn’t get to go. I learned
much from working with this pro
ject.
In my fourth year of 4-H, I
again took dairy as my project.
I gave a demonstration on dairy.
I got an award in field crops at
the awards banquet. I enjoyed
working with all these projects
during my 4-H work.
During my 4-H club years I
have had a lot of experiences
that have helped me a lot. Ihave

a lot to me because it meant
that I could learn new things,
attend camp, and live in the
wonderful 4=H way of life, making

I wanted to learn how to raise
chickens, pigs and cattle. 1
wanted to learn all about ele

and how to conserve all of our
natural resources. Electricity
and its uses in the home, com

industries and so on fascinated
me. [ wanted to learn about
how to grow things, how the
minerals in the soil provide food
and water for plants. 1 wanted
to grow crop and pasture pro

county fair to display to others
what is learned and produced in
4-H project work and because I
am proud to be a 4-H’er and
want other people to see and
