Porterdale Rites
Held Tuesday For
Mrs. Cora Allums
Funeral services for Mrs.
Marvin (Cora) Allums of Wash
ington Street, were held Tuesday
afternoon, September 28, at the
Julia A. Porter Methodist Church
in Porterdale, with Rev. A, J.
Bruyere and Rev. A, L. Griffis
officiating at the last rites.
Mrs. Allums, a native of Henry
_County, was 61 years old at the
time of her death on September
226,+in a private hospital.
* Interment was in Mt. Bethel
Cemetery, Henry County, with

Died Suddenly Saturday Morning
Robert Wilbor (Chub) Ivey of
Adams Street, died suddenly in
a private hospital on September
25, after an illness of only a
few hours, A native of Newton
County, he was 62 years old,
He was a member of Red Oak
Methodist Church, a Veteran of
world war II and a member
of the Covington Police Depart=
ment, being in charge of park
ing meters on the square in
Covington, where he was on duty
at the time he was taken ill,

Julia Estes Whitten of Atlanta,
were held Monday afternoon,
September 27, at the Chapel of
Harwell Funeral Home in Cov=-
ington, with Rev, Douglas But
ler, pastor of Shiloh Methodist
Church officiating. A native
of Morgan County, Mrs, Whitten
was 85 years old at the time
of her death in a private hos
pital on September 25, Inter
ment was in Covington Ceme
tery.
Surviving are a daughter-in
law, Mrs. A, A, Whitten, grand
children, Mrs. Charlie Skipper,
James Whitten, all of Wilming
ton, North Carolina; R, C, Boon

Robert Hodges died suddenly
at his home on Route 1, on
September 23, at the age of
57. A native of Newton County,
he was an employee of Bibb
Manufacturing Company,

Succumbs At 85
Herschel V, Johnson Sr, died
at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. R, E, King, 212 N, East
Street, on September 26, after
a lingering illness. A native
of Jasper County, he was 85
years old, He was a member
of the Julia A, Porter Methodist
Church and for approximatley 31
years was an employee of Bibb
Manufacturing Company, prior
to his retirement,

Final Rites Held
Rutledge Church
Mrs. Emory Davis of Rutledge,
died in a private hospital on Sun
day, September 26, following a
lingering illness. A native of
Morgan County, she was 73 years
old.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at Rutledge
Baptist Church with Elder Jerry
Hunt, pastor of Shoal Creek Bap
tist Chuch and Elder Joe Hildreth
officiating. Interment was in
Rutledge Cemetery with J, C,
Harwell and Son Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements. Ser
ving as pallbearers were Hubert
Stanton, Robert Gilbert, Horace

Graveside funeral services
were held Tuesday afternoon,
September 28, in Covington
Cemetery for Henry Wright, who
died in an Atlanta hospital on
September 26, following a short
illness. He was a native of
Newton County. Rev. Thomas
J. White, pastor of Covington
Presbyterian Church, officiated
at the last rites with J, C,
Harwell and Son Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements,
He is survived by two brothers,
Jack Wright and Louis Wright,
both of Covington and one sister,
Mrs. Sam T, Williams, Tall
adega, Alabama,
