Friday night, October 8, the
Rams will journey to Winder
to meet the Winder-Barrow Bull
dogs of Region 4AA East. Game
time is 8 o’clock.
The clash at North DeKalb
Stadium Saturday night was a
defensive battle with Tucker
getting a net ground game yard
age of 67 and the Rams had a
total of 47 yards net. The only
sustained drive the Rams were
able to put together was in the
fourth quarter after the forward
wall had blocked the Tucker punt.
Billy Shepherd bulled over for
Newton’s touchdown on fourth
down from the one-yard line.
Andre Bruyere kicked the extra
point from placement. This was
Bruyere’s first try for an extra
point.

The total rushing yardage of the Rams and Tucker Saturday
night was just 114 yards. Tucker had 67 yards net, and the Rams
had 47 yards net. In contrast, both teams were penalized a total
of 176 yards—Tucker 100 yards and Newton 76 yards ... Fletcher
Hill, now enjoying the World Series on TV, continues to receive
unusual pencils and pens from around the world. Robert Fowler
of Covington, for whom Mr. Hill worked before he was disabled
several years ago, brought a ball-point pencil made of bamboo
from Florence, Italy, to Mr. Hill • . . Don Shea, former Ram assis
tant football coach and now at Marist in Atlanta, was scouting
the Tucker team Saturday night against the Rams. He had a tape
recorder for his report of the game.
A lefthanded pitcher is generally wild. But, not in the case
of Sandy Koufax of the LA Dodgers. He has an expectional 6-1
strikeout ratio to bases on balls, which is a major part of his
success ... When Georgia’s Interstate highway system is complete,
the grass cutting job alone will be roughly equivalent to mowing
a football field over 1,100 miles wide several times each season .. .
The Braves ended 13 seasons in Milwaukee and drew more than
19-million fans. That is about 1,500,000 per year. This season
they drew only 555,000.

Georgia Downs Michigan 15-7;
Tech Clobbers Clemson 38-6
Georgia’s amazing Bulldogs took another giant step toward
national honors Saturday afternoon at Ann Arbor, Michigan when
Coach Vince Dooley’s gang downed the potent Wolverines of the
University of Michigan 15-7.
The Bulldogs did it in the fourth quarter when Preston Ridle
huber passed to Pat Hodgson for a TD to send the Southerners
ahead 12-7. Michigan at the time had a 7-6 lead. Bob Etter
added his third field goal of the day in the waning minutes of the
game to put the important inter sectional victory in the cooler.
Georgia now has beaten two of the top ranking teams of the
country, Alabama 18-17 and now Michigan 15-7. The Associated
Press poll Monday night ranks the Bulldogs fourth in the nation
while the UPI, made up of coaches around the country, puts the
Georgia eleven in the fifth spot. Arkansas and Texas are the
leaders of the two polls.
This week (Saturday) the Bulldogs return home to Sanford
Stadium for a game with the Clemson Tigers, an almost next
door neighbor. Kickoff is 2 p.m.

TECH-CLEMSON NOTES —
Covington Boy Scouts are again handling the flag raising at
Grant Field for the Tech home games. In charge of the group is
Jack Meadors. His crew Saturday included: Charles and Mike
Lassiter, Ricky Pratt and Walter Eller.
*♦ ♦ *
Lenny Snow is being tabbed as the best running back that Tech
has had in the past 10 years. Saturday he ran up 102 yards in the
first 13 minutes of the game and scored two TDs. He’s powerful,
fast and shifty.
*♦ * *
The attendance at the game was announced as 46,736. Grant
Field was almost full and it would have been difficult to see how
about 5,000 more could have gotten in as the capacity is around
52,000.

Tech now seems to have solved its problem of a QB. They
have two, Kim King and Jerry Priestly.
Tech Freshmen
Open Saturday
Against Miami
ATLANT A—Georgia Tech
freshman football coach Jack
Fligg, whose Baby Jackets open
their season Saturday night
against the University of Miami
frosh in the Gator Bowl, has
nothing but praise for his op
ponents after viewing their open
ing game.
The game will feature what
Miami head football coach, Char
lie Tate, has called "the finest
frosh team in the school’s his
tory” against a potentially solid,
but unproven Jacket team. The
contest will be for the benefit of
a Jacksonville charity.
One basis of Fligg’s confidence
was his own backfield composed
of QB Tommy Chapman of At
lanta, Ga., halfbacks Gene Spiot
ta of Memphis, Tenn., and Johnny
Tullos of Brunswick, Ga., and
fullback Johnny Weaver, a Jack
sonville product who will be per
forming before his hometown fol
lowers.
Each is a running threat. Chap
man ran for 70 yards and aTDin
the Jacket fall prevue game
finishing the game as the leading
ground-gainer with 99 yards.
Spiotta, though injured most of the
fall, has been a standout since
returning and should team with
Tullos to provide alot of back
field speed.
Fligg looks to tackles Ronnie
Bass and Bob Seamon, both of
Marietta, Ga., and linebackers
Tim Eubanks and Eric Wilcox,
who reside in Atlanta and Tyler,
Texas respectively, to anchor
the Baby Jacket defense.
