Death Claims Mrs. Barber
After A Lengthy Illness
Funeral services for Mrs. W.
L. Barber of Route 4, Covington,
were held Tuesday afternoon,
November 23, at Starrsvllle
Methodist Church with Rev.
Jimmy Thurman, pastor of the
church, officiating at the last
rites.
Mrs. Barber, a native of Peach
County, died in a private hospital
on Monday, November 22, after a
lingering illness. She had been a
patient In an Atlanta hospital for
the past six months when she died
at the age of 61. Shewasa mem

Funeral Today
At Hopewell For
Johnny Gilbert
Johnny M. Gilbert, 83, of Cov
ington, died Tuesday, November
23, at his home after a lingering
illness. He was a native of Henry
County and a member of Hope
well Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held
today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at
Hopewell Presbyterian Church
with Rev. R. Wayne Dickson,
pastor of the church officiating.
Interment will be in Hopewell
Cemetery with J. C. Harwell
and Son Funeral Home in charge
of arrangements. Deacons of
Hopewell Church will serve as
pallbearers.
Surviving are three sons, Earl
Gilbert, James Gilbert, both of
Lithonia; Julian Gilbert, Coving
ton; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar
Prickett, Mrs. J. W. King, Cov
ington; 10 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.

Funeral Held
At Gum Creek
Mrs. Gus (Mary) Byrd of RFD,
Oxford, died in a private hospital
on Sunday, November 21, after a
lingering Illness at the age of 75
years. She was a native of Fulton
County and a member of Gum
Creek Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at Gum Creek
Presbyterian Church with Rev.
E. D. Worstall officiating. He
was assisted In the services by
Rev. Gaines Spivey and Rev.
Cedric Banks. Interment was in
Gvm Creek Cemetery, near Ox
ford, with J. C. Harwell and Son
Funeral Home in charge of ar
rangements.
Surviving are four sons, John
Henry Byrd, Atlanta; Luther
(Luke) Byrd, Covington; Grady E.
Byrd, Huron, South Dakota; Wil
bur Byrd, Decatur; four
daughters, Mrs. Roy Piper, Ox
ford; Mrs. Otis Shook, Doraville;
Mrs. J. W. Hargis Jr., Atlanta;
Mrs. Jesse J. Pirkle Jr., Rex;
two brothers, Cleo Johnson, Ed
Johnson, both of Norcross; broth
er-in-law, Jim Rainey, Nor
cross; 19 grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren and a num
ber of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gaertner
Dies In Atlanta
Mrs. M. A. Gaertner of Atlanta
and Cocoa, Florida died on Sun
day, November 21, in Atlanta,
after being critically ill since
August. She was a native of
Covington, the daughter of Mrs.
Rolfe Bloodworth.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon, November 23,
at Westview Abbey Chapel v Ith
Rev. Edgar Callaway officiating
at the last rites. Interment was
In Westview Abbey.
Surviving besides her mother,
Mrs. Rolfe Bloodworth of Cov
ington are a daughter, Mrs.
Bailey Stinson, Cocoa, Florida;
sister, Mrs. Edna Gaertner,
Jacksonville, Florida; brother,
Thomas Bloodworth, Sylvania and
five grandchildren.
