Mrs. Alice Sherwood Boyd Os
Oxford Dies At Age Os 90
Mrs. Alic* Sherwood Boyd of
Oxford, died at her home on
March 28, at the age of 90 years.
Funeral services were held at
the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan
Funeral Home on Wednesday af
ternoon, March 30, with Rev. G.
Robert Gary officiating at the
last rites.
She Is survived by one son,
Aubra L. Sherwood, Oxford; one
sister. Mrs. A. A. Almand, Ma
con; four grandchildren, Mrs.
Guy Wallis, Conyers; Mrs. Harry
Williams, Jacksonville Beach,
Florida; Mrs. R. J. Hahn, High
Point, North Carolina; Charles
C. Sherwood, Cornelia; eight
great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.
Interment was in Oxford Ceme
tery with Caldwell and Cowan
Funeral Home in charge of ar
rangements. Serving as pall
bearers were Guy Wallis,
Charles Sherwood, Raymond
Hahn, Walter Stroz.ier, W. A.
Carlton and Bankston Moss.

Monday Rites
For Mrs. Massey
At Carmel Church
Funeral services for Mrs. Ada
Massey of Covington, were held
at Carmel Baptist Church on
Monday afternoon, March 28, with
Rev. James Bohannon officiating.
Interment was in Carmel Ceme
tery with J. C. Harwell and Son
Funeral Home in charge of ar
rangements. Serving as pall
bearers were William Womack,
Riley Robinson, Roscoe Womack,
Jimmy Harwell, Robert Patrick
and Joe Hughes.
Mrs. Massey was a native of
Banks County. She died in a
private hospital on March 26,
following a lingering illness.
She was 80 years old at the
time of her death.
Surviving are six sons, Pete
Massey, Pate Massey, Riley
Massey, Bill Massey, Charlie
Massey all of Covington; Steve
Massey, Homer; two daughters,
Mrs. C. F. Meeler, Sparta; Mrs.
Elmer Harper, Covington; two
brothers, Eard Arflin, Vienna;
Garn Arflin, Pinehurst;20 grand
children and 16 great-grand
children.
The NEWS joins the friends
of the family In extending deepest
sympathy to them In their sorrow,
a pharmaceutical graduate of the
University of Georgia, Athens.
His many friends are glad to
welcome him back to Covington.

Livingston
School News
EIGHTH GRADE NEWS
On Friday, March 11th, the
Livingston eighth grade had a
visiting teacher, Dale Hender
son. Miss Henderson is a mem
ber of the F. T. A. through which
she learns about teaching by
visiting the schools. The class
enjoyed very much having her
visit and teach in their class.
Equipment for the Livingston
spring athletic program has been
acquired. The equipment in
cludes baseball bats, catchers
equipment, volley balls, foot
balls, tennis equipment, soft
balls, baseballs, outside basket
ball goal and rim, and softball
bats.
Mr. B. M. Paden has set a fine
record in his coaching years at
Livingston School with the girls’
basketball teams. His record
is 173 wins and 83 losses. Mr.
Paden is coach and teacher as
well as principal at Livingston
School.
Coach Criswell’s 8-year
coaching record in basketball
is 72 wins and 28 defeats. He
has seen his boys beat Porter
dale 19 times and lose 13 times;
against Flcquett he has won 24
and lost 11; against Palmer Stone
he won 18 and lost 4; against
Mansfield he has won 11 and not
lost any.

tist Choir under the direction of
O. R. Cooper, will present a
special programof Easter music.
