Monday, July 4th Is a legal
holiday and all city, county and
government offices and most oi
the business firms In the county
will be closed.
Post offices in the county and
all offices in the Newton County
Courthouse will take the one-day
holiday. Also the various super
markets of the city and the banks
will be closed Monday. Business
as usual will be resumed on
Tuesday, July 5.

cleaning disinfects clothes. But
microbiologists, according to
Miss Margie Mclntyre, Extension
home economist - clothing, say
this is not the case. Some germs
-live through the dry cleaning
process.

Rev. Barney Williams Accepts
Call To Canaan Baptist Church
Rev. Barney Williams has ac
cepted his calling to Canaan Bap
tist Church. He will assume
responsibility of the pulpit July
3, 1966.
Rev. Williams began his min
istry March 27, 1955. His first
calling was to Mt. Mariah Baptist
Church, Hoschton, Ga. He re
mained pastor there for 5 years
with the Lord’s rich blessings.
There were 250 additions to the
church. Work on the church in
cluded all new Sunday School
rooms and remodeling of some
of the old buildings.
His next calling was to Mt.
Zion Baptist Church, Oxford,
where he is remembered by many
people of Newton County as a
truly devoted man of God. He
was there 2 vears with 56 new
additions to the church.
After leaving Mt. Zion, Rev.
Williams was called to Union
Church, Hall County. He re
mained there 1 year with 12
additions to the church.
For the past 3 years, Rev.
Williams has pastored East Side
Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.
Rev. Williams was successful in
leading 200 additions to this
church and also successful in
leading this church into the North
Georgia Association.
James L. Hicks Promoted

tion of James L. Hicks as a Dir
ector of the company. Mr. Hicks
was elected at the annual Stock
holders Meeting on June 16, 1966.
Mr. Hicks began work for Beck
& Gregg Hardware Company in
1948 and has filled many pos
itions with the company. He
first began working in the ware
house, but has been associated
for many years with B & G’s
Sporting Goods and Toy Depart
ments. Mr. Hicks is now chief
merchandiser and head buyer
for these departments.
Mr. Parker states that Mr.
Hicks has made and continues
to make important contributions
to Beck & Gregg’s Program of
Planning, Promotion and Mer
chandising Assistance to its many
retail merchant customers.
Mr. Hicks also served as pres
ident of the Georgia Firearms
Dealers Association, president
of the Southeastern Sporting
