Newton Science Classes Took
Trip To Dekalb Hospital
Sixty-four Newton County High
School students were taken to
DeKalb General Hospital recent
ly. The students were members
of Mrs. Webb’s Physical Science
classes. They were taken to the
hospital as a result of several
laboratory' experiments.
For those interested readers
who were startled by the above
headline, I must admit that the
trip was not the result of a labo
ratory explosion, but the result
of interest developed about la
boratories by Mrs. Webb in our
Physical Science Class.
The purpose of the trip was
to learn about equipment used In
the laboratory of a big hospital.
For most of us, it was the first
time we had ever looked forward
to going into a hospital.
We were guided around the la
boratory by some friendly doc
tors. They showed us how blood
was stored for future use and

told us how many Ilves have been
saved by transfusions from these
blood banks.
They also showed us how a
centrifuge works. We also saw
parts of the human body which had
been preserved. I had the oppor

as a doctor pointed out the va

I only hope that my own brain

This Is
YMCA Week
During this week, designated
as YMCA Week for 1967, mem
bers of the Y clubs In Newton
County and throughout Georgia
are delivering the impact of their
Christian endeavor in their
homes, schools and communit
ies. However, their work is
not limited to one week of the
year but Is on a year-round ba
sis.
We are living in a time of
hustle and bustle. Everyone is
on the go. This land called
America Is covered with people
going here, doing that, and say-
ing this. In the constant race
for accomplishments and recog
nition some people today are not
following the right path. What
they need is a purpose to guide
and direct, lead and instruct
them in their lives. This purpose
is not ‘gaining the top’ no mat
ter what the cost for anyone in
the way, but rather the purpose
that presses us to lead the lives
of true Christians and to try to
help others do the same.
The Power of a Purpose, Y
club theme for the year, is a
theme full of much meaning and
magnitude. To have a purpose
is to add meaning to all we do,
and to have a purpose centered
around the Lord Jesus is to make
life abound with happiness and
fulfillment.
The group of young men and
women belonging to the Hi-Y
and Trl-Hi-Y clubs stand as a
testimony to the fact that teen
agers today have a purpose. Their
purpose is : “to create, main
tain, and extend throughout the
homes, school, and community
high standards of Christian
character.’’ These club mem
bers, with the help and support
of their dedicated advisors, have
worked diligently this year to put
power behind their YMCA pur
pose, but especially are they
working this week of January
22-29, YMCA Week in Georgia.
