Oxford College Dean ’s Home Scene
Os Thursday Evening Coffee Hour
The historic Dean’s Home of
Oxford College formed the at
tractive setting on Thursday
evening, for a delightful coffee
hour, at which former and cur
rent faculty and staff ladies, and
wives of faculty members were
feted, co-hostesses for the
event, which included some fifty
guests, were Mrs. Bond Fleming,
Mrs. Fred Landt, Mrs. Lewis
Archer and Mrs. Hoyt Oliver.
Guests were greeted by Mrs.
Fleming, wearing a forest green,
two piece silk costume; Mrs.
Landt, who wore a grey wool,
with crochet trim, in empire
style; Mrs. Archer, in a white
butte knit, with pearl trim; and
Mrs. Oliver, whose sheer wool
costume, with jewel neckline,
was in crimson.
The college colors, blue and
gold, were accentuated through
out the rooms thrown ensemble
for the occasion. An oriental
arrangement of yellow jasmine In
a cobalt vase, was reflected In
the entrance hall’s pier mirror.
A full blossomed, potted blue
cineraria, with gold mat and bow,
continued the color scheme on
the living room coffee table.
Yellow daffodils In blue contain
ers were used effectively at other
vantage points of the setting.

V. Y. C. Eady, In a navy silk,
with royal blue floral pattern;
Mrs. E. J. Bown, wearing a knit
model In turquoise blue; and Mrs.
W. A. Carlion, who wore a pearl
gray, two piece costume, with
charcoal braid trim.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Capes an
nounce the arrival of their son,
Danny Craig, on January 24, at
the Newton County Hospital. Mr.
and Mrs. Lester Capes are the
paternal grandparents. Mr. and
Mrs. Bobby Nelson are the mat
ernal grandparents.

of Atlanta announce the arrival
of their daughter, Amy Merritt,
at Piedmont Hospital on January
23. Mrs. Hinton is the former
Miss Sandy Bromwell, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brom
well of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Mrs. Louise Hinton and the late
Neron P. Hinton are the paternal
grandparents.

Manley announce the birth of a
son, George Arthur Manley, at
St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens
on February 27. The maternal
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
George Thomas Seagraves, Sr. of

Claude Edward Manley of El Mon
te, California are the paternal
grandparents.

Banquet In Porterdale School’s
Cafeteria on Thursday evening,
February 23, at seven o’clock.

To Luncheon Guests On Monday
Mrs. Sam M. Hay entertained
at a luncheon at her home Mon
day honoring Mrs. Charles C.
Royal, Jr. and Mrs. T. A. Max
well , Jr. of Augusta, guests of
the Covington Service Guild at a
meeting following the luncheon.
Mrs. Royal is 10th District
President, Georgia Federation of
Women’s Clubs and was guest
speaker at the meeting. Mrs.
Maxwell is the 10th. District
Corresponding Secretary. Mrs.
Hoke Randall greeted the guests
and assisted in serving.
A mass arrangement of Flem
ish flowers in vibrant and sub
dued shades of color was used
effectively on a coffee table in
the living room. The mantle
piece arrangement consisted of
a pair of cupld compotes hold
ing evergreen rounds.
The dining room table was
overlaid with an ecre imported
linen cut-work cloth and featured
a silver candelabra holding pink
candles, one of a pair of can
delabrum presented to Mrs. Hay
by Georgia Federation of Wo
men’s Clubs at the close of her
administration as President. The
second guest table featured a
petal pink damask cloth with a
central arrangement being a
Mrs. John E. Jones spent part
of last week with Mr. and Mrs.
Archie Cunningham and Sherrie
In Atlanta.
