COVINGTON MEMBERS of the Georgia Industrial Loan Association (GILA) presented two checks to the
Newton County Board of Education recently to buy school lunches for needy students. Local finance
companies gave a check for $54.00 and the GILA gave a check for $25.00 to Newton School Supt. J. W.

has been appointed as a member
of the convention committee of the
Georgia Industiral Loan Associ
ation.
Named to membership on the
committee of the state-wide trade
association of small loan com
panies in Georgia was Mrs. Lula
Vaughn.

Convention General Chairman
James M. Meadows of Macon
has announced that the meeting
will be held at Callaway Gardens
on June 11—13th.
Mrs. Vaughn will serve as a
member of the Ladies Program
sub-committee, according to an
announcement from Chairmfie
Meadows today.
The chairman also announced
that the committee will meet
next month to make fianl plans
for the annual committee.

Gov. Maddox Sets Good
Government As Main Goal
ATLANTA (GPS) —Gov. Lester '
G. Maddox, in a recent speech
before the Atlanta Bar Assoclat- '
ion, said his administration in
tends to set an example for sound, 1

vernment.
He told the lawyers "we are j
attempting gigantic strides in
higher education, providing
nearly a 75 per cent Increase 1
in college budgets over the next 1
two years.”
The governor also told the
group he was working to find
solutions to traffic and transit
problems for cities and seeking
federal action in the completion
of Georgia’s interstate highway
system.
Further goals of his admini
stration, Maddox said, are sol
utions to the financial problems of
city and county governments and
additional outlays for the men
tally ill and retarded.

our utmost to take advantage of

Porterdale Girl Scouts Had
“Thinking Day” Program
PORTERDALE — When Mrs.
Ronald Burch, a native of Ger
many, told Porterdale Girl Scouts
that girls In Germany go to school
six days a week from seven A. M.
to 6:00 P. M., they were mighty
glad they were Americans. This
came as a surprise at their
Thinking Day program in Porter
Memorial Gymnasium on Feb
ruary 21.
Fifty-one girls and their lead
ers, Mrs. Thomas A. Gunn, Mrs.
Roy Capps, and Miss Mae Hard
man, chose this date to think of
