OXFORD CEMETARY FOUNDATION
TO EXPAND BOARD MEMBERSHIP
On February 19th, at 2:30 P.M.
the Members of the Oxford His
torical Cemetery Foundation held
its annual Board Meeting at the
home of W. A. Carlton. The
meeting was called to order by
Mr. Carlton, President of the or
ganization, and the meeting was
opened with a prayer by Judge
Walton Strozier.
There were 10 Board Mem
bers present and in addition Dr.
Bond Fleming, Dean of Oxford
College, and two members of the
Oxford City Council. The foun
dation works jointly with the town
of Oxford.
When the financial report was
read, it was amazing what had
been accomplished in a little
over two years time. The As
sociation taken in a little less
than $13,000. Some of this is
for perpetual care and some for
the annual upkeep. The two funds
are kept completely separate.
It Is thought that is might be
well to enlarge the number of
Board Members, so a few let
ters have been written to in-

Most of us let some unexpected event catch
us unprepared. Remember, life's opportunities don't
wait, so be prepared for them.
There is nothing like
having money in our Bank

(Best Coverage: News, Pictures, and Features)
terested persons asking them to
serve on the Board. It Is hoped
that this will strengthen the or
ganization and that these mem
bers will see how we get our
money and how we spend it and
may be able to give us some good
ideas as to how we may do a
bigger, better job than we are
now doing.
Many new cemetery lots are
soon to be laid out and there
are several new families in
terested in buying lots in this
old and historic spot. In buying
a lot, the cost of perpetual care
is included in the purchase price.
The cost of the grave space goes
to the town of Oxford and that of
perpetual care is turned over to
the Foundation. Now a lot may
not be bought unless the cost
of perpetual care is included.
On April 20th the Trustees
of Emory University will hold
a meeting in Oxford. A let
ter is to be written and sent to
each Trustee before this date
telling them of the work being
done by the Foundation. The
Foundation will sponsor a tour of
the cemetery and will point out the
graves of many of the distin
guished persons resting there.
“The meeting Sunday afternoon
was a very Interesting and worth
while one and both Mr. and Mrs.
Carlton were very gracious in
their hospitality,’’ an official of
the Foundation stated.
