Girl Scouts Speak
To Pilot Club
Representatives from six local
Girl Scout Troops were guests
of the Pilot Club at their regular
business and program meeting.
Sponsorship of the Girl Scouts
Is the main endeavor of the pilot
Club. The scouts were accom
panied by their leader, Mrs. Es
telle Hopkins.
Mrs. Sam Hay, President of
the Pilot Club extended the wel
come followed by the Code of
Ethics. Mrs. Edward Manley,
chairman of the coordinating
committee, was program chair
man. Mrs. Manley introduced the
Scouts and gave a brief resume
of the club sponsorship. Mrs.
Hopkins presented the following
girls: Maureen Wendel, Troop
823 of Brownies; Becky Luns
ford, Troop 343; Susan Adams,
Brownie Troop 414; Brenda
Bradley, Junior Scout Troop 147;
Kim Jones, Junior Scout Troop
207; and Janice Tuck, Cadet
Scouts. Each representative gave
a report of activities during the
year of scouting. This program
is to be an annual event of the
pilot Club.
Mrs. Hay conducted a short
business meeting after the pro
gram.

Girl Scouts Attend Pilot Club Meeting

son, Larry.

Mrs. Rena Blankenship is re
cuperating at the Georgia Baptist
Hospital after undergoing sur
gery on Monday, March 6, to cor
rect a crushed elbow suffered In
an automobile accident In Por
terdale on Sunday, February 26.
Mrs. Maebelle He well, who was
injured in the same accident has
returned from Newton Hospital
to her home in Porterdale and
is recuperating satisfactorily.

underwent spinal surgery at the
St. Joseph’s Hospital In Augusta,
on February 21, and Is recu
perating satisfactorily.

Mr. Olin Lindsey was the over
night guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Rawls on Wednesday, February
22, when he was in town for the
funeral of his sister, Mrs. A. L.
English.

James B. (Jimmie) Turner has
been named Engineer Os The Year
by Lockheed-Georgia Company
of Marietta. Jimmie Is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Turner of
Covington and is the brother of
Mrs. Marianne Turner Ivey of
Covington. He Is also the great
nephew of Otis Nixon of Coving
ton.
Married to the former Joann
McLendon of Covington, the Tur
ners have three daughters: Deb
bie, Laurie and Bonnie. They
live in Smyrna.
C. E. Ward, Lockheed Plant
Construction Representative,
made the nomination of Mr. Tur
ner for the high award of the or
ganization for the year 1966.

The Engineering Office Build
ing Is a new concept in building
construction, and It must be noted
that the first occupency of the
building took place, on schedule,
within ninety (90) days of the
start date.
The B-l Building Roofing Pro
ject was the largest roofing job
ever undertaken and It was large
ly thru Jim’s efforts that the job
was completed on schedule and
without incident. Thru Jim’s re
search on his own time and his
experience in bringing this pro
ject to a successful completion
Lockheed now has a competent
rnfftpg consultant equal to any
in the business.
These are only two specific
examples of Jim’s ability to co
ordinate and direct an unusual
project to a successful complet
ion. B-88 and B-89, C-141
Hangers and the C-5A Engine
Test Stands are additional monu
ments to Jim’s ingenuity and
productivity.
Jim has brought to completion
approximately twelve million
dollars In subcontract work In the
past eighteen (18) months. The
qualities of Ingenuity, tact, per
sistence. initiative, drive, tlm-

gan on Sunday, February 26,
1967.

L. Cain took his basic training
at Amarillo A.F.8., Texas. His
schooling in Aircraft Pneudraulic
Course was at Chanute A.F.8.,
Illinois.
He was recently on leave for
thirty days which he spent at
home with his mother, Mrs. May
Caln of 622 Baxter Street In
Covington. Airman Third Class
Cain Is now stationed at Clark
A.F.B. In the Philippines where
he will be for the next 18 months.
He is a 1966 graduate of New
ton County High School.
There are things that are

JIMMIE TURNER, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Turner of Covington,
holds the trophy presented to him by Lockheed for being named
“Engineer Os The Year’’. Mr. Turner has a service record of 16
years with Lockheed and was directly responsible for 16 projects
completed at Lockheed during the year 1966. He Is a graduate of
Covington High School, Southern Tech and attended Georgia Tech.
