Charles McLendon, of Con

ector of Music at the Julia A.
Porter Memorial Methodist
Church, in Porterdale. Mr. Mc-
Lendon graduated from the Rock
dale County High School and is
now attending Oxford College.
After his graduation he will be
matriculating at Emory Univer
sity, but will continue his duties
as Director of Music.
Mr. McLendon spent last sum
mer singing with Atlanta’s “The
atre Under The Stars’’. Choir
practice will begin this coming
Sunday, at 6:30, for all Interested
parties. Until the choirs have
been trained Mr. McLendon will
render solo work.

Next Sunday, Mother’s Day,
will feature an annual event at
the Julia A. Porter Memorial
Methodist Church. At the close
of the service a Wedding Vow
Renewal service will be held,
conducted by the pastor, Rev.
A. J. Bruyere. Focal point of
the couples being remarried will
be Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Davis
who have recently celebrated
their sixtieth wedding anniver
sary. The next phalanx will be
composed of all couples who
have been married fifty years,
or more. Around them will be
gathered all the other couples
attending. Last year twenty
three couples renewed their vows
and It Is hoped that this number
will increase this year.
Rev. E. C. Swetnam, former
pastor, will bring the message
of the morning.
Cousins’ Band, Orchestra And Chorus
In Concert Monday Evening At 8 O’clock
The annual Spring Concert pre
sented by the R. L. Cousins Sch
ool Music Department will be on
Monday evening, May 15th at eight
o’clock in the school cafetorium.
The band, orchestra, and chorus
will participate.
Guests for the concert will be
Mr. Alfred D. Wyatt and Mr.
Lucius R. Wyatt, soloists, and
Mr. Phillip N. Davis, conductor.
Mr. Alfred D. Wyatt, a native
of Atlanta, Georgia and a grad
uate of Clark College, and Van
dercook College of Music, will
perform with the band on the
French Horn. He Is in his 13th
year as Director of Bands at

Mr. Lucius R. Wyatt, a native
of Waycross, Georgia, is a grad
uate of Florida A. and M. Uni
versity and Eastman School of
Music. He Is presently Director
of Bands at Tuckegee Institute,
where he has served since 1960.
Mr. Wyatt has performed as
trumpet soloist with the orches
tra of the Hochschule fur Music
In Heidelberg, Germany and at
several colleges In the eastern
United States. He Is author of
“The Brussels Museum of Mus
ical Instruments,*’ published In
the February, 1967 Issue of Music
Educators Journal. He will per
form on the trumpet with the
Cousins Band.
Mr. Phillip N. Davis a native
of Gadsden, Alabama, Is a grad
uate of Morehouse College and
Vandercook College of Music.
He Is presently teacher of In
strumental music In area 5 of the
Atlanta Public school system.
The public Is Invited to share
in this evening of music.
Doyle Brown
Receives Silver
Derby Award
WASHINGTON (Special) —
Doyle Brown of Covington, was
honored at the Shoreham Hotel at
special ceremonies during the
annual meeting of Life Insuran
ce Company of Georgia Presi
dent’s Club.
Mr. Brown was presented a
Silver Derby as the company’s
leading staff manager In 1966.
The presentation was made by
I. M. Sheffield, Jr., of Atlanta,
Life of Georgia board chairman.
A native of Detroit, Mich., Mr.
Brown joined the company In 1947
and managed a staff of agents
from local district headquarters
In Athens since June, 1965. Mr.
Brown Is married to the former
Mary Ann Sewell of Lavonia, Ga.
They have three children. The
Browns attend the Covington Fi
rst Baptist Church.
