Mrs. Odum Meets With Quill And
Scroll Society In Final Session
The first year of the Mamie
Ozburn Odum Quill and Scroll
Society of Newton County High
School ended with the meeting on
May 17. A special guest was
welcomed, Mrs. Mamie Ozburn
Odum.
After a devotional, “Ambass
adors for Christ” was given by
Vance Morris, chaplain, and
Margaret Benton, secretary,
read the minutes and called the
roll, a very special appreciation
was given to a hard working
president, Bonnie Knight. Under
her direction and Inspiration, the
club has formed a strong found
ation for years to come.
One of the projects of the Quill
and Scroll is to select a member
of the year on a basis of jour
nalistic activities. This year the
club chose Bonnie Knight and
Dorothy Hardman as members
of the year.
One of the highlights of the
1967 club year came as Mrs.
Odum Informally addressed her
club. Mrs. Odum is the author
of over 2000 published poems
and has received national and
International awards.
Mrs. Odum, “84 years young,”
encouraged the prospective writ
ers to continue their writing
even in discouragement. She
read her own lovely selection
from the Easter Beals as a
part of the program. The club
members presented Mrs. Odum
with a plaque and honorary mem
bership in the club.
rrest Exley, John Willis Gre

The assembly closed with the

special lady with a wonderful
gift who, Indirectly, has made
their club possible.
