Georgia Elks Auxiliaryat the con
vention held at the Carriage Inn
Motel, at Jekyll Island on Satur
day, June 10, To serve as State
President of the Elks for the co=
ming year is Tolbert P, Sexton of
Atlanta,
Mrs, Vaughn is very active in
Elks Auxiliary, having served as
State Chairman of Scrapbook
Committee, State Treasurer, St
ate Auditorand State Vice=Presi
dent of the North East District,
On the local level she has ser
ved as Aidmore Chairmanand lo
cal president for two years, as
well as serving on various com
mittees.
The impressive installation
was conducted by Robert Pruett
of Atlanta, Special guests for the
occasion were two of Mrs, Vau
ghn’s sisters, Mrs, Lamar Da
vies of Gainesville and Mrs, Wes
ley Rachels of Wadley, Those
from the Covington Lodge and

Among theactivities at the con
vention was a beautiful tea given
in honor of Mrs., Vaughn by the
Covington Lodge 1806, in the
lounge of the Carriage Inn, Mrs,
Dan Clower greeted guests and
was in charge of the guest book,
She then presented them to the
receiving line consisting of Mrs.
Vaughn, Exalter Ruler Dan Clo
wer, Mrs, Joe McClure, Presi
dent of the Covington Auxiliary
and Mrs, Howell Woodward, vice
president and Aidmore Chair
man,
The spacious lounge was beau
tifully decorated with mass ar
rangements of assorted fresh flo
wers, An arrangement of laven
der asters decorated the guest
book table, The long refresh
ment table was overlaid with a
white linen cloth with an oblong
arrangement of white mums, la
vender asters and white gladio
lus, Members of the Covington
Auxiliary, Mrs, Jack Allen, Mrs,
Roy Elder, Mrs, A, R, Hooten,
Mrs, Lewis White and Mrs, Jam=
es Hardman, alternated in ser
ving punch, cake squares, mints
and nuts to the approximately 75
friends attending,
The Vaughn’s are active in
many civic and community clubs
in the First Baptist Church,
where she is a teacher in the
Sunday School, Mrs, Vaughn is
also serving her fourth year as
State President of the Georgia
Industrial Loan Association,
Mrs., Vaughn appointed Mrs,
John Chesnut of Covington as
State Corresponding Secretary,
to serve with her for the year,
The memorial service was held
on the morning of June 9, at the
aquarama when 277 Elks were
honored in the very impressive
service as having passed ondur=-
ing 1966-67 year, The memo=-
rial address was given by Rev,
James L, Collins, Jr,, pastor
of the First Christian Church
in Brunswick, William D, Hicks

Oxford College Yearbook
A highlight of the Honrs Day
program at Oxford College on
June sth was the announcement
of the dedication of the MEMORY,
which is the school’s yearbook,
Few words of introduction were
necessary to present the
honorees for the occasion; the
editor of the MEMORY simply
read a quote which seemed to
sum up the impression made by
the couple on the Oxford came
pus, In the words of Henri Fre
ederic Amiel:
“It is not what he has, nor
even what he does, which di
rectly expresses the worth of
a man, but what he is,”
During their twenty years at
Oxford College the Gregorys have
excelled in their workand in their
interest in the students they yet
have managed to assume active
participation in community aff
airs,
Mrs, Gregory, who formerly
taught chemistry and mathemat
ics at Oxford, is currently lib
rarian and also a member of the
Curriculum Study Committee and
the Library Committee, She is
the Director of the Junior High
M,Y,F, group and Secretary of
Missionary Personnel of the Wo=
man’s Society of Christian Ser
vice of Allen Memorial Methodist
Church, Mrs, Gregory’'sschola=
stic pursuits have beenrewarded
by her membership in Delta
Kappa Gamma, an honorary edu
cation fraternity and in Beta Phi
Mu, an international library sc=-
ience fraternity. She has. also
been an active member in the Al
umnae Society of Georgia State
College for Women (Georgia Col=
lege in Milledgeville),
Mr, Gregory, Associate Pro
