Mrs. Thigpen. Sr.
Mrs. T. R. Thigpen, Sr. of
3129 Conyers St., Covington, pas
sed away at her home on June
26. Mrs. Thigpen was a native
of Crawford County.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday afternoon, June 28,
at 9:00 A. M. in the Chapel of
Caldwell and Cowan Funeral
Home, with Rev. Edgar A. Call
away officiating. Interment was
in Macon Memorial Park in Ma
con with Caldwell and Cowan Fun
eral Home in charge of arrange
ments.
Surviving are her husband T.
R. Thigpen, Sr. and son, Troy
R. Thigpen, Jr., both of
Covington; daughters, Mrs. Q. K.
Barrett, Miami, Florida; Mrs.
William Durham of Decatur; and
Mrs. A. T. Balus of Macon;
nine grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren.
Carl Biggers
Carl Biggers of Chicago, Ill
inois, passed away June 21, in a
private hospital following a short
illness. A native of Newton Cou
nty, Mr. Biggers was 55 years

Memorial services were held
June 24, at 11:00 A.M., in the
Chapel of Harwell Funeral Home
with Rev. Charles Thomas, pas
tor of Salem Methodist Church,
and Rev. Jim Luke, pastor of
Lovejoy Methodist Church, of
ficiating at the services. J. C.
Harwell and Son Funeral Home
were in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services were held In
South Bend, Indiana, with Inter
ment In South Bend.
Surviving are his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Lawrence Biggers of
Covington; wife, Mrs. Carl Big
gers of Chicago, Illinois; and
sisters, Mrs. Ernest Savage, and
Mrs. Mary Johnson, both of Cov
ington, and a number of nieces
and nephews.

Aged-Blind And
Disabled To Get
Check Increase
Effective July 1, Georgians
eligible for public assistance will
receive an Increase in their bene
fits.
Mrs. Bruce Schaefer, State
Director of the Georgia Depart
ment of Family and Children
Services, In announcing the in
crease, said approximately 221,-
000 persons, including almost
75,000 children are affected.
A person eligible for financial
assistance under either the Aid
to the Aged, Aid to the Blind,
or Aid to the Disabled program
will have his allowance increas
ed $5. Families with dependent
children will receive Increases
of $2. to $lO. The actual amount
is determined by the number of
ellgibles within the family.
Mrs. Schaefer reports that as
of June 1 there were 125,566
persons eligible for benefits un
der the aged-bllnd-disabled pro
grams. Under the Aid to Fam
ilies with Dependent Children
program there are 23,981 famil
ies with 95,620 eligible members.
Os this number, 74,883 are child
ren.
The increase is the third to
be granted during the adminis
tration of Mrs. Schaefer. Bene
fits were increased in 1962 and
again in 1963.
