The sudden death of Mrs. W.
D. (FEthel) Weldon on July &
brought a great shocktoher loved:
ones and friends. She was loved
by all who knew her. Her place
will be so vacant, but God is
calling his loved ones home.

loving sympathy to her family
and loved ones and commend them

mester Dean’s List at Wake For=
est University, according to a
recent announcement made by
Grady S, Patterson, Registrar
of the university,
To qualify for the Dean’s List,
a student must achieve a QPR of
at least 3.00 out of the maximum
4,00, Lassiter made a 3.4 this
semester and held a 3,23 aver=
age for the school year,

225 Enrolled In
Head Start Here
The Head Start program in
Newton County is underway with
some 225 enrolled in three sch
ools of the county. C. J. Tin=-
sley is the director of the pro
gram this year.
Daily sessions are held at the
R. L. Cousins School in Coving=
ton, at Palmer Stone School in
Oxford and at the Livingston Sch
ool.
Dean Fleming Named Chairman

National Fellowship Foundation,

casts from the Moana Hotel,
Waikiki, Honolulu, and was for
two years affiliated with the Hon=
olulu Community Theatre, whe
ere he played the role of Cap
tain Von Trapp in the first off-

and Hammerstein’s THE SOUND
OF MUSIC, in 1961, Also in
Honolulu, he was baritone so=
loist with the Masterworks Cho=
rale, participating in major ev=
ents in the 1961 Pacific Bach
Festival, including J, S, Bach’'s

himself an officer in the U, S,
Navy, he was ‘‘drafted”’ by the
Army Special Services to appear
in plays and troop entertainment
in the Hawaiian area,
Following his return to the
west coast, he spent one year in

try Festival in 1962, perform
ing the music of Andrew Imbrie,

Following this, Mr, Smith spent
