My 4-H Experiences
By Kathy Stewart
While In 4-H, I have learned
many things about 4-H rules and
regulations. It has also given
me self-confidence.
When I first got in 4-H I did
many things. Some of the child
ren cooked and some of them
sewed. The first thing I did
in cooking in 4-H was to start
reading the directions, then I
always made sure I had every
thing the directions called for.
Reading the directions is very
important in cooking because in
order to cook you should have
everything that is supposed to
be in it, or you may mess it up.
Then I made sure I washed my
hands and put on an apron. Was
hing your hands is important too,
because you may put germs in the
food if you don’t wash them. You
should put on an apron to pro
tect your clothes from spills wh
ile cooking. You may even get
grease on your clothes that may
not come off. When I did this I
made some cookies. The first
time I made some cookies I did
not follow the directions like I
should have, then I made them
over and this time they tasted
better than the last time. This
helped me a lot. When I did
this it made me feel so grown
up. I was able to take over the
kitchen and fix food for my own

Well, 4-H is really something!
You can learn many things. Our
4-H meeting is a time to have lots
of fun. There are many things
to choose from in 4-H. Some of
them are cooking, sewing, free
zing, canning, landscaping, and
many others. If you are not a
4-H’ers you are missing out on
all the fun we enjoy through this
organization.
During school in my second
year of 4-H I started freezing
foods. One of the things I froze
was apples. I had plenty of help.
There are plenty of things to
freeze and can. Now I have had
the opportunity to do these things
better. I even had the oppor
tunity to go to Rock Eagle. I
even got an award card for de
monstrating how to freeze apples.
It’s really wonderful just to know
you are a member of 4-H. 4-H
will help you to do lots of things
better.
Now I have started my third
year in 4-H. My project this
year is still food preservation. I
like to freeze different kinds of
foods. Freezing is fun and many
things can be learned that will
help have a superior product.
While enjoying the summer I
had camp to think about. There
are so many wonderful things I
can do at camp. You can swim
and play, but there is a time for
