M. H. Beckman
M. H. Beckman of Collum Road
passed away at his home on Wed
nesday, September 27, at the age
of 84 years. He was a native of
Pennsylvania.
Graveside services were held
at Lawnwood Memorial Park on
Sunday afternoon, October 1, with
Rev. H. N. Earnest, pastor of the
Porterdale Baptist Church, offi
ciating at the services. Cald

Miss Myrtle Branham Griffin
of Route 2, passed away In a pri
vate hospital on Friday, Septem
ber 29. A native of Newton Coun
ty, she was an employee of Bibb
Manufacturing Company and a

member of the Almon Baptist
Church.
Funeral services were con
ducted at the Chapel of Cald
well and Cowan Funeral Home
on Sunday afternoon, October 1,
with Rev. Marvin Young and Rev.
Dewey Yancey, Jr., officiating at
the last rites. Interment was In
Lawnwood Memorial Park with
Caldwell and Cowan Funeral
Home In charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were Ed
win Gattis, Fred Wilson, Richard
Henderson, Billy Pickett, Ray
mond Mitchell and John Parks.
Surviving is her mother, Mrs.
Myrtle S. Griffin of Covington.

Funeral services for John C.
Alexander of Route 1, Coving
ton, were held Friday afternoon,
September 29, at the Chapel of
Caldwell and Cowan Funeral
Home with Rev. Harold Lyda
officiating.
Mr. Alexander, a retired self
employed Ice cream salesman
was a native of Henry County
and was 71 years old, having
passed away on September 28, in
a private hospital three days
before his 72nd birthday on Oct
ober 1.
Interment was in Liberty Ce
metery at Porterdale with Cald
well and Cowan Funeral Home
In charge of arrangements. Ser
ving as pallbearers were Thomas
Wilson, Marvin Lewis, Glen Vau
ghn, Coy Smith, J, D. Smallwood
and Whitey Alexander.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Lucille Alexander, sons, Wil
liam Alexander, Jack Alexander,
all of Covington; step-sons, Art
hur Lee Almand, Porterdale; Ja
mes Almand, Covington; daught
er, Mrs. Betty Allgood, Coving
ton; step-daughters, Mrs. Josie
Smith, Covington and Mrs. Liz
zie Thompson, Orlando, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he
is survived by two sisters, Ma
rsha and Kathy Smith and one
brother, Aaron Smith.

Gospel Meeting
October 9-15

Hugh Davis
A gospel meeting begins Mon
day at the Covington Church of
Christ. Hugh Davis, of Marietta,
will preach daily in this specially
planned series of services, con
tinuing through October 15. The
public Is invited.
Hugh Davis is a familiar name
to many Georgians. He was ori
ginally from East Point and has
preached throughout the southern
states.
There will be congregational
singing. No collections will be
taken, except on Sundays.
Those who visit during the
meeting are encouraged to take
notes and ask questions. Both
Davis and the local preacher, Don
Hastings, will be available for
private discussions. Those hav
ing Bible questions which they
wish to discuss may make ap
pointments when attending the
services or may telephone for an
appointment by calling 786-9422.
Sunday morning Bible classes
will be continued as usual during
the meeting. Classes for all age
groups meet at 10 a. m. The
regular Wednesday evening cl
asses, however, will be discon
tinued while the meeting is in
progress.
Davis will preach Monday th
rough Saturday at 7:30 p. m.
Sunday he will speak at 11 a.m.
and 7:30 p. m. The meeting
house of the church is located
just off Interstate 20 on the Old
Atlanta Highway.
